England captain Ben Stokes highlighted the key difference in preparations ahead of the first Ashes Test on Friday and said: “‘Australia were playing cricket, we were playing golf.’
Stokes revealed his team spent a week away together ‘reconnecting as friends’ and playing golf whilst Australia took on India in the World Test Championship.
Speaking to the media on the eve of the first Ashes Test, Stokes pointed to Stuart Broad’s “incredible” record against Australia as the chief reason the veteran seamer was picked ahead of Mark Wood for Edgbaston.
Tussles with Australia have frequently brought out the best in Broad, who has taken 131 Ashes wickets in 35 Tests and 84 in 20 at home.

Guys like Ben Stokes come around once in a lifetime. Everyone questions how they go about their business until years down the line, then they realise these are the kind of people that change the way we see Sport. A renegade because he does things different from the norm but a cold, calculated genius on the cricket pitch. Wouldn't be surprised if England dominate this series. Everyone has feared the Ozzie's over the years but you play the ball not the man, mindset is everything and these guys have it by the "bucket hat load"

What an exciting prospect this Ashes series is, love to see us do it but I fear Aussies have too good a bowling attack, but you never know. What I do know is that I will miss Shane Warne on commentary.
