Should Treliving’s comments about Matthews inspire confidence?

Jay Onrait was joined by TSN Hockey analyst Jamie McLennan to get his thoughts on the work Brad Treliving must do in Toronto, and the Penguins’ hiring of Kyle Dubas as their new President of Hockey Operations.

  1. Treliving's comments inspire me to think of REPETITION. He's gonna run it back with that core 4 AGAIN.
How does that saying go?… Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

    Another dud playoffs next season.
Also he says he wants to get to know auston… doesn't sound like a guy that confident he'll sign him. He will but it'll probably be like $15 mil x 4

  2. If you want Matthews's long-term and on a deal you need to sell him a vision of what things are to be eventually after that team building becomes easier once a price tag is set.

  3. He's posturing, you can keep the core four and expect different results. Dubas built a roster about as well as you could around that constraint, it's simply not enough.

You can win a championship with any of these four on your team, but not all four of them at that price.

  4. Expect to see Mathews traded to Dallas for Jamie Benn a 3rd line defenseman and a 4th round pick. Treliving skill at delivering on these types of deals is will known.

  5. The bottom line os if matthews is speaking the truth ad we know a lot of others said it just to stay away from the critisism from fans walking into their final season now think about that for a moment boys NHL PLAYERS DO LIE!!! just 4 that reason

  6. WOW trying to start a fire where there 8s no smoke Jay it reminds me of CNN MNSBC KILL TRUMP KISS BIDEN ASS I thought were bigger then that

  7. The "I'm not gonna pop up somewhere next week" comment goes completely out the window when you get fired. People can't seem to grasp that.

  8. He's not resigning. Get over it and move on. The taxes there are horrible, the PM is a pedo, the weather sucks, the covid lockdown was a prison camp….US players want freedom, low taxes and beach weather….. actually so do canadian players, that's why they never go back to Canada and their kids are born American 😅😊😅

  9. There seems to be more to the idea that Dubas wanted more autonomy with Toronto than Shanahan was prepared to give him. It's likely that 'unofficial' discussions between Fenway Group & Dubas' agent took place & that is likely the genesis of Dubas's 11th hour counter to MLSE, knowing he had interest from Pittsburgh. He's now President of hockey operations for the Penguins, so he now has more of the authority he sought, so good for him. He's a very bright guy. I thought he took a very good team & made it better in his 5 years.

There are others who will disagree, given Leaf playoff results, but they took a significant step this spring in beating an elite team in Tampa. Sadly, they ran into a red hot goalie, who at age 34 is playing at a level absolutely NO ONE saw coming. No 'Vezina Bob' the Leafs beat Florida. The same applies with Boston & Carolina. Yes, Tkachuk has been clutch, along with some other Panthers, but the one guy who can steal games is Bob & he's done it for 3 rounds. Can he do it one more time the final? I don't know & you can argue the long gap from round 3, to the Cup final, could be a mitigating factor to the heater he's been on since game 5 against Boston. Without him at that level they won't beat Vegas.

Treliving seems to be another smart GM & while the jury's out as he acclimatizes to the Leaf environment, he sounded like a grounded, thoughtful individual who does not appear to be given to knee-jerk hasty decisions, so I'm hopeful he can continue to improve this club as Dubas did during his stint as GM. We'll see soon enough.

  10. Noodles is brainless. This guy's a waste of tsn dollars 😅 watch overdrive and you will see his stare down at his CPU screen for 80% of the show lol

  11. If you want Matthews on a long-term deal, you have to essentially pay his taxes somehow. Greedy one dimensional plug, who can do absolutely nothing outside of scoring 40 – 60 goals in a year. Liability in every other position on the ice.

Move the plug, get back proper pieces to help the team.

  12. The leafs absolutely don’t care if they win a cup. They’re fine being a top 5-6 team, making the playoffs and then rinse and repeat. Asses are in seats, moneys coming in.
