Ricky Wysocki teaches Carter Ahrens how to WIN at DDO Practice Round at ECC | Dynamic Discs Open

The defending champ and 2022 DGPT Player of the Year, Ricky Wysocki, returns to Emporia to prepare for the 2023 Dynamic Discs Open. Along with him in this practice round is up-and-coming 15-year-old phenom, Carter Ahrens. Carter is hot off his first-ever DGPT Top-5 finish at the Beaver State Fling, where he shot a course record 12 under in the final round. Ricky and Carter are battling against the new layout at the Emporia Country Club. How will they fare on the new layout in the much more scorable conditions before the 2023 Dynamic Discs Open?

  1. Two of my favorite golfers, thanks DD! This practice round was more informative than Jomez, just saying….their practice rounds lost the good insight, it’s still entertaining, if you like rom-coms! This gave us (the viewer) so much insight, disc selection, shot selection. Etc. Great job! *S/O to Ricky and his role as a mentor to my dude, it’s amazing hearing the wisdom from one of the greats to a young grasshopper! Great dialogue, great course knowledge, great shots! ** NCAA UW collegiate golfer who’s a good friend of mine, explained how they would prep for a tournament, they already did their physical workouts, so a week before the tournament they would get packets, of the upcoming course (caddy books/greens-pin sheets) they would literally study the course on paper, before a tournament, each hole writing notes, when arriving on-site they would then walk the course, prior to playing with the coaches and talk through their game plan, (where to miss) then during practice rounds, they would tweak anything (get wind readings, club yardages, hole 7 down wind is minus one club, etc) back at hotel, studying their game plan, knowing the risk/reward, so when it comes to tournament day, they have already done the hard work, now they go out and do what they do, play golf! Less stress, less mind fu*ks,, they have their plan in order, every math problem has been calculated, they could go out there and find their tempo and get out of their own way, golf is about reacting! When you start thinking about anything other than the shot in front of you, muscles get tight, tempo gets outta whack, the Indecisions & contemplating will just disrupt the flow/tempo! That’s why they say “the separation is in the preparation”, look at Ricky he’s got a strict policy and shot for every hole; he’s also got a reason why, all champions like Rick, have this in their tool box! The best disc golfer Ive witnessed in this regard (course management) is Kristen Tartar, without a doubt, better than anyone MPO included, she’s not making dumb mistakes and if your gonna beat her, you better be birdieing, because she’s not gonna be going backwards! Thanks again! LFG CARTER AND RICK!! Good luck!

  2. Like to see the young and old DD talent practicing together! Makes for a pretty solid video.

  3. Kinda like this teacher, student format. Props to both, Ricky for good teaching and Carter for being earger to learn

  4. Most important tips for a youngster is take in the knowledge. Cuz you got the skills. Ricky is getting Carter in the right frame of mind.

  5. Trusting your disc on that one anhyzer angle is such a helpful tip for me. As well as tricking your brain to throw wider with a flippier disc in hand. Just trust the disc. Thank you so much, Rick👍

  6. No nonsense practice round. Ricky great as always and Carter managed to get a few words in too 😂 Top production of course too. Makes me look forward to DD events even more.

  7. I love it, Ricky would be a great coach for dg one day. Humble and encouraging. Would love to get some coaching from Ricky!

  8. Love seeing one of the best in the world helping one of the best up and coming players. Hopefully we can see more of these. Carter is going to be a beast on tour in the next couple of years.

  9. I tell you what. Carter by himself, he looks mature, built, and athletic. Stand him next to anyone, he looks young, petite, and unsure of himself.

Give this kid 3 years he’s winning a bunch of tournaments.

  10. Carter says I just got these Agents [ 2 speed disc] for 300 foot shots! I'm lucky to get a 9 speed to go 300 feet. 😄

  11. I just have to point out there is almost no wind through the first couple holes that I can tell…Will make a huge difference in round.

  12. how do you throw an anyhzer shot with a rive and keep it turning? unbelievable!!

  13. Ricky: Carter, you should do this, do that. Carter: I know how to play disc golf, old man. Just let me throw.

  14. The disc selection, the placement, and what he is thinking before the shot. These type videos are timeless. Guy loves the sport. Great Practice Round video. Thanks for sharing with us! 💯

  15. little bit annoying with Ricky's chain hitting the mic, but a real nice sesssion gj 🙂

  16. Biggest takeaway from this is that Carter either doesn't know what differentiates Mids and Fairways or he's too scared to tell Ricky "No" 😂😂😂 no Carter, a Getaway and a Glory are not Mids
All love for the kid BTW, more of this pair!

  17. I would love to see a Ricky and Carter "father/son" clinic video where Carter talks about basics for young players picking up the game and Rick adds details for the subtle stuff experienced players will find valuable

  18. Omg…they use meds that easily glide to 433 ft on hole 4, and I’m struggling to get my distance driver to reach 400/440 ft…. Lol. Sigh. I suppose that’s why they are pros and we’re all ams…
