  1. what are your thoughts on.

findong your ball in an old divot
the rule were you have to play 3 off the tee in a comp if your ball goes out.. even if you can pin point were it went out to take a drop
when me and my mate play and our first tee shot on the first tee doesnt go well. we both agree to start again. baring in mind we have both been in work all day. (only on the first tee)
putting your ball and it hits the pin and doesnt go in. should it be given. baring in mind if the pin wasnt in it would have gone in

  2. no big deal. who cares even if he bought himself. learn how to play golf you whiney pussies. bring out a team that can win or head on in to the "other" lockeroom. grow a set.

  3. Everything depends on where, when, with whom, how you play.

I am a referee myself and I am often annoyed by other players who do not play by the rules. Usually these are minor infractions, I point them out afterwards and tell them to watch how they play.

However, some players are known cheaters who do everything they can to keep their handicap low. Once they do this cheating, they have to keep doing this cheating. This in itself does not bother me. I even find this a bit pathetic. What does bother me is that they often win the prizes they don't deserve at club competitions. Even if this is just about a box of golf balls, you're not doing this.

What I especially learn from this is that golf brings out the real character in people.

  4. I won’t play in tournaments anymore because they take too long, and people cheat. If they sell mulligans, there’s no way I’m playing. But my main reason is the 5-6 hour rounds. As far as JB goes, it’s another example of people misplacing their opinions and care. Worry about government corruption, child trafficking and slavery, the news lying to us, and justice for some but not others. I’m just trying to be a better golfer and Christian and both are a challenge but worth it.

  5. My PGA pro says that he’s not allowed to participate in amateur scramble tournaments or he could lose his status/card/certification.

  6. Definitely, this is cheating! Only golfers with low morals, education, and ethics do this kind of cheering, Also on Privet courses around the world golfers are not certified for their real handicaps! they increase the numbers. That's why I never play in a tournament. Only with 2 to 4 handicaps or scratched players, I would play.

  7. If you are wagering money during a "scramble" format – PLAN ON GETTING CHEATED.
I've yet to see ANY scramble group that wasn't cheating. From where and how they place the ball to play each shot to illegal clubs to using grease to green Lifesavers & the old ball in the pocket trick. SCRAMBLES ARE FOR CHEATERS.

  8. If you're JB Holmes and want to play golf with your friend, go do it in a charity scramble, not a 30k calcutta. Way to screw the whole thing up, JB!

  9. People are just mad because they “gambled” and lost. They did not know the players. We know this because they did not know who John Bradley was or what kind of game he had. It was random gambling on names they did not know nor did they make any attempt to know. The whole thing is people being butt hurt.

  10. Never played in a sport where so much cheating goes on .
Its normally low hadicappers that are the worst.
Only ever run 1 tournament and at thee end of the memorial day had so many complaints of people cheating .

  11. I once played in a corporate pairs better ball match and our opponents included one individual off a declared handicap of 21. He played really well and we ended up chasing the game with no real chance and so lost heavily – shaking hands on the 11th hole. His partner was certainly sheepish and embarrassed. It turned out this guy was actually a Wentworth member with a handicap of 12. Cheating – yes, definitely! Why? – I am still puzzled … it was a serious but friendly corporate match with no prizes other than an overall trophy. Bizarre – can’t believe they got any real pleasure or satisfaction from it and certainly we didn’t enjoy it much at the time and even less on reflection once we knew. Don’t really get why people do this.

  12. How to deal with penalties is a problem as someone else has noted but we recently couldnt get clarification on a moved ball issue. My ball came to rest on a slope with a twig underneath it, I carefully removed the twig & the ball remained in place, however, after retrieving a club to play my next shot it rolled 2 inches. So….is there any time limit considered or is it simply a case that regardless of the delay i caused the ball to move?

  13. I agree. The Calcutta is where the issue is. I experienced Calcutta for the first time last year at my new club, it's a huge thing up there. The member/member is this weekend so I'll be taking part in it this weekend. It'll be interesting bc we have a newer member from last year that has been caught cheating twice. It'll be interesting to see how everyone bids on his team as even though he cheats, he is still a very good golfer.

  14. Being a PGA professional has some conventional obligations. One is to declare your status and identity to fellow competitors and any participating stakeholders. He should have immediately declared his correct status and identity, it is the professional thing to do. Yet another obligation is to be the stewards of the game of golf and follow all rules, conventions, traditions and etiquette of the game of golf, without exception. Where there is money involved these sensitivities ought be higher. The fact that his mates bought into the Calcutta compromised him, he should have said something. There is no excuse here. For a PGA Professional there is no such thing as a casual golf game, on a golf course you are a professional ethics must prevail always. May have been some alcohol involved as is often the case in these events. Some bad decisions perhaps questionable ethics, certainly poor judgement.

  15. So yes almost every golfer cheats, now there's a few types, there's the fact that the rules of golf are both so complicated, and there are so many rules that even professional golfers need rules officials on course to advise them if they are within the rules or have broken them and that's not even on the purpose ones but the unwittingly broken ones because they are so complicated, and often in ways that wouldn't benefit anyone so many are broken every round every played without even knowing it, but could still be called cheating.

Then there's the most golfers actually suck and aren't playing for any money or anything other then fun, and so cheat themselves with a little kick here a little nudge there a little throw the ball back out from under that bush and play it like your shot was amazing and landed in the fairway… ah backspin.
Then there's the humans that are playing for money or pride and want to win, and like in any sport will try and cheat a little here and there and hope they don't get caught, and if they do will defend it to the end, show me anything where money or pride in on the line and I guarantee someone is cheating.
So ya cheating is enshrined into the culture of golf, but that's because it is also enshrined into human competition in general, hence why cheating isn't just a golf term…

  16. biggest cheat is in stableford scoring. Not at local course competitions where everyone knows someone there but in out of town tournaments and especially charity competitions .ive found local comps are won with 30-35 points out of town or charity events have people shooting 45-50 points. The last charity comp was won with a 4 person team score of 162 we played really well to score our 126 and only came 6th. I know charity events dont mean anything and are just for fun but you still feel cheated.

  17. Cheating is something I have never condoned. I have never been afraid to get into someone's face whether they are a professional or a hacker. Cheating is cheating. Anyone playing with me knows my position and if they don't want me in their face they will play by the rules.

  18. only issue is that someone has a campling problem – cannot just play golf, have to start betting even in local competitions 😀 – you people are funny!

  19. We've had it at our club in am/am and scrambles they've had to cancel them all in the near future cus the same 4 ball are cheating. They've won the last 14 comps and come 2nd once it's awful. There calculated score on one comp was the equivalent of 13 birdies and 5 eagle's. We have asked for them to be split up but a letter was put in saying it was victimisation so we asked for a marker to be present that was also followed by a letter saying it was discrimination so therefore nobody will participate in any of the above comps

  20. Not all but-Golfers can be as honest as a politician,so no need for worries!

  21. yes. let's not forget sandbaggers!! winter rules get abused during the spring and summer because of bad lies! who doesn't fudge the rules in a scramble?? you see it all the time!

  22. Amateur golfers bump the ball, move out of divots, take mulligans because they don’t think it hurts

  23. I only gamble with my friends and other people that we know. As far as JB Holmes's "cheating" situation I don't think that there was a problem. In the area that I live the Calcutta has such a bad reputation that they are not played here

  24. I play in senior leagues. I am most discusted with the constant conceded putts. I constantly tell people there is no such thing as a concession in stroke play. They still do it. People even miss putts, and then say they "gave it to themselves". Yesterday a fellow missed a three foot putt, and another guy said, that was good anyway.

  25. Thanks for the like, the typo was supposed to say, they had no skin in the game, they shouldn't be in a gambling tourney. I would like to know him f they are running a scam. I,m a 30 year non-golfing realdeal caddy, 20 years with a shooter, I know of what I speak.

  26. That is a southern thing, I have played in dang near 100 rounds of them.

  27. As soon as money is involved you have to be squeaky clean. His intent was most likely pure but there is an impact on the bidding process for the Calcutta and the bidders have every right to feel they have been 'misinformed' about his teams capability.

  28. I just started playing golf a year and 11 months ago and I'm down to a 3.6 handicap already, but I spent my fair share on lessons before all the bad habits started luckily. I am a 33 year old male. My parents and my sister loves to play also. My parents have been playing 35 to 40 years and my sister about 1 full year. My parents weren't ever super coordinated or natural athletes. My mom, dad, and sister all fluff their ball's lie to make it easier and they scoop the ball, so if the lie was shit, they would have no chance. Golf should be fun, so I joke with them like you can't do that, even though I say I'm just kidding. People would get too frustrated and never give it a real chance otherwise. If you are a beginner, go right ahead and do that, but not in a tournament people unless it is a scramble where you can and you have a club length not progressing the ball to the flag. What bothers me, is when I play with my brother in law and we are competitive and keep score. He is a mid handicapper always trying to beat me. We always go to our own ball a lot of times and here I am catching him fluffing his ball up giving himself a nice lie on his 2nd shot on a par 5 hitting his 3 wood. There has been many times where I had to take my 2 iron instead of my 3 wood because my lie wasn't that great and had to hit ball first hitting a lot more down at it and here he is fluffing his ball giving himself an immaculate lie and apparently that is a common thing. I'm like, that is fine if you want to do that, but your score is meaningless and then a big argument happened. I'm like, if you want to play against me, do it fair and I'll give you the fair amount of strokes and we play legit, but not like that. He is a scooper also. If he doesn't have a good lie, it's the difference in him hitting it solid quite often versus being terrible. Am I a dick for calling him out? I just feel like if you are going to keep score, and you have been playing the game a while, he has 20 some years, he shouldn't be doing that. My parents are 63 and 62 so it's a little different when my dad's ball speed off a pure drive is 120 mph and mine is 165 mph.

  29. It’s irrelevant. In a 6 man scramble your only as good as your worst scorers. If JB was under par for the round and everyone else is over par then they are no better off than a 6 man team of single figure handicappers

  30. ive never cheated or lied in my life. i've also never shot over par. me and my friends never shoot over par when we play. XD

  31. Poor guy cant even play a scramble with some friends…Glad I suck so bad that this will never be an issue.
