  1. This is a really stupid take. What about the team that loses the sec title game? The team that finished 3rd will be rewarded more than the second place team. Absolutely stupid

  2. Always like your unbiased opi ion….&that you stressed the first two years are a trial meaning some will be happy :
    & Some not
To include the conferences & within the conferences.

  3. He completely missed the point Kirby made, Kirby was arguing that what happens to the team that loses the championship games are they going to be left out of the playoffs for a team that got to sit home and not play. This video was a big Whif

  4. They def need to add Indy and MN indoor stadiums to the NY6 as an opportunity for the NorthEast & MidWest states to get some advantages (or as u mentioned home field advantages).

  5. Booooo… BAMA got a first round bye in 2017, and had 2 weeks to prepare for UGA… UGA got one week, because they had to play the week before. Kirby is absolutely right.

  6. Getting a bye is irrelevant with regards to the playoffs and the Sec championship. The 2 teams in the SEC championship will automatically get into the 12 team playoffs.
The entire playoff system is horrible with 12 teams. The best teams will always win the national championship and it’s normally from the SEC.
So,by expanding to a 12 team playoff will only let more SEC teams in and continue their dominance of college football. They keep trying and trying hard to get rid of the SEC dominance but it’ll never happen.

  7. Greg, the first round bye is great for the winner, but the loser is greatly disadvantaged compared to a team that didn’t make the SEC championship. People aren’t talking about this part. Except for Josh Pate anyway.

  8. It benefits ESPN's bottom line, which is ABC, now Disney.
More teams, diluted competition, more games, more content on TV, internet, phones.
No need to say 'you understand' and then keep talking. This is capitalism. I wonder who gets the better of this deal because i'm thinking it's not the fans.

  9. Greg, you're entirely missing the point. Yes, it's good to win the conference championship.

However, in many cases, it will be better to not make the conference championship than to make it and lose. You just have to look at last year. Under the current system, 2022 LSU wouldn't have made the playoff while Alabama would get in without even winning their division.

  10. Its been said before in the comments, but 2017 isn't the reference. The closest possible example in recent history that sets the precedence CKS is concerned with, as it pertains to the SEC and specifically UGA, is 2012. Week 14, or Championship weekend, UGA, ranked 3rd behind ND (lol) and Alabama, loses, by 4 points to the latter. The next and final rankings (BCS, but more importantly the AP and USAC, as these still exist and are currently) moved UGA below, either directly, or a few spots below Florida, awarding the team who did not deserve it, a more prestigious BCS/NY6 bowl.

6AQ will not be a thing once realignment is finished. Its a joke if that remains. There wont be 6 conferences that warrant the respect enough for an AQ bid.

I agree, the second round should be the home game. The first round/wild card shouldnt be rewarding the teams that didnt win anything but the brand lottery. Can you imagine a world where UGA, Alabama or Ohio state loses a head to head tie breaker, misses their conference championship game, finishes 5-8, and can host the first round against a team they either beat by 21, or would be favored by as much? I say this as a Georgia fan. First round would be as much of a snooze fest as the pre-NY6 bowls. Obviously there could be exceptions, but by and large, the more talented teams given as much leeway as that would lead to some massive first round blowouts.

  11. Swing and a miss….Kirbys comment was aimed towards the team that loses not wins. I really dont get how you make a video about this while not understanding the point of what was said. If Bama and LSU have 2 losses each but LSU wins the head to head and goes to Atlanta. Now they play UGA and lose, they will be punished for playing that game and either be left out of the playoffs or be ranked lower than Bama. That was the argument…greg

  12. Just look at the 2018 and 2019 Georgia Bulldogs. Both times they entered the SECCG with 1 loss and ranked in the top 4 of the Playoff Committee rankings, and both times had to play the #1 team (Bama in 2018, LSU in 2019). They lost the SECCG both times and fell out of the top 4, and missed the Playoffs. I get that they lost the games, but they had to play the #1 team in their conference championship, while other lesser conferences (*cough* ACC, cough Clemson) got to play weak opponents in their championship games. And Notre Dame gets to not even play a 13th game and takes a playoff spot in one of those years. So logically speaking, in 2018 and 2019 the Playoff Committee is telling me that Georgia is a Top 4 team based on their regular season body of work, going into the SECCG, but because they lost to the #1 team they are no longer one of the 4 best teams? It's nonsense.

  13. Kirby is talking more about the disadvantage if you lose the championship game. 3rd place team in SEC prob still gets in and possibly above the loser of championship game and didn’t have to put the wear and tear on their players.

  14. Awfulllll take. The loser of the championship is completely screwed. The conference championship is already a playoff game in most conferences. The home field advantage is nice, and you get an extra week for the playoffs to film study, but you still play the same number of games= same wear on the players

  15. If winning a championship game means you get a bye, then everyone who didn't play in a championship also gets a bye (by getting to rest in the championship game) so that is a moot point.

That doesn't even take into account losing in a championship game and getting passed by teams staying home (or having to play an additional game if they still make the playoffs).

  16. I believe Kirby's comments were more directed to losing the conference championship game – which is a valid point. Are we going to allow the 3rd or 4th place SEC team leap frog the loser of the SEC championship game? If so, that's complete BS and needs to be addressed. IMO.

  17. This isn’t about the winner….. the concern is about the loser of the conference game.

  18. This new Playoff format suits Bama perfectly . Now Saban wont have to cry to the NCAA to back into the Playoff. Greg..I sure would have loved to see 2 loss Bama back into the playoffs last year against Georgia..

  19. If SEC doesn't continue to have a championship game would be best case scenario and then go with 9 game schedule. Best record is champion.

  20. Your forgeting that there are always two teams! someone has to lose. The team that loses gets screwed in the new playoff setup

  21. This guy completely missed the point lmao what does what he saidnhave anything to do with what Kirby said?????? 😂😂😂😂

  22. Based on all the comments… I think it's safe to say, Greg, you missed the point Kirby was making.

  23. I mean Kirby is right I've been saying for years that when we expand the playoffs that the conference title game is going to be a waste of time, especially for the loser. But then again if you lose by 30 points in the conference title game you probably don't deserve to get in

  24. A first round by is not a big deal when your team already has 4 to 6 weeks off before they play. It's moot

  25. With the 12 team playoff, we no longer need conference championship games. The teams that play in championship games have to play an extra game each and also incur injuries while other teams that make the playoffs get to sit at home, lick their wounds, and have an extra week to prepare for the playoffs.
