Why Klay Thompson Repeatedly Targeted Anthony Davis On Defense

On a must win Game 2 at home, the Warriors blew out the Lakers in the second half led by a game high 30 points from Klay Thompson. I want to break down a key recipe that was successful in Game 1, which was guards coming off handoff actions to take advantage of a dropping Anthony Davis, so let’s break this down.

  1. That's what i like about the warriors. The defense can not only focus on Stephen Curry.

  2. The 2nd and 3rd shot by Thompson looked like a travel in slow motion is it not? After his last dribble he took 5 steps.. well nba nowadays 5 steps is just a gather right?

  3. A big adjustment is also not having 2 non-shooters on the floor. With both Loon and Dray, AD can be higher on those on-ball Dray screens because Loon's man is just camping on the paint to prevent easy drives.

With 4 shooters on the dubs, AD can't be too high or else it's a layup or dunk because all other Lakers have to guard the perimeter. But if he drops, they get torched on 3s.

  4. It's going to be real hard for the Lakers to win if they don't get the favorable treatment from the refs they've been getting since the LeTantrum. They went from an average of +3 FTA per game vs opponents to an average of +10 FTA per game since Jan 29th. Game 2 they didn't get that favorable treatment, though that's not the reason they lost. We'll see if they get it again going forward.

  5. JaMychal Green has inherited the Andre Iguodala role. The original small ball line up is back. JMG fulfilled the role of Andre and Wiggs fulfilled the role of Barnes. It's the same frickin team composition just with different players. I love that Steve made this line up possible

  6. AD stays in the box, he doesnt come out that often even was exposed during game 2 by JMG.
And he is tired and wont last against GSW being guarded by 3 different matchup.

  7. I like Klay, he is my favourite Warrior but 01:10 shows what's wrong with today's NBA. Count the step fellows, with that much dancing allowed everyone can be a dribble master. And it's a league problem more than players because they are not calling it.
