Pivoting Of The Club // Malaska Golf

Mike Malaska clarifies for a Malaska Golf member about Joe Nichols and the pivot point of the right elbow and pivoting of the club. He thought they looked different. When Joe Nichols talked about the right elbow, he wanted you to feel that you pivoted the club immediately on the backswing. Your right elbow pivots on the backswing, the handle of the club pivots on the downswing, and then the elbow pivots again. Your elbow is pivoting your arm externally and internally rotating your arm. The two pivot points must happen parallel to each other. You don’t want your club to dip and find yourself trying to catch the club up. Joe was big on having the right elbow and club coming down to its pivot points and then pivoting together into the ball. Ensure the elbow rotates in the shoulder socket and doesn’t move back or slide away from your body.

  1. Hi Mike other great video put show could you please have a video how not to rush the down swing..

  2. Yes, Yes, the right elbow does what he says and the right upper arm rotates in the socket as he demonstrates. But what about the left upper arm and left elbow. Both hands are attached to the handle, so they must work together. It is easier and potentially less injurious if you focus on the left arm and elbow. Hogan says the left arm works like thumbing a ride. Ballard says keep your left elbow pointing down at the ground and thumb a ride. The left upper arm bone rotates externally just like the right upper arm rotates internally. Both with force. Also, the hands must move down and into the body to let the club pass over the hands and the clubhead to move in to out at the golf ball. If you only focus on the right you will have real problems, and you may even get hurt. Just trying to save you the pain.

  3. Seems like it does not follow a Kinetic chain. I believe the old style over the top used by Jones, Hogan, Trevino, Watson is the best and easiest swing.

  4. Watched some videos of Mike explaining the Joe Nichols move, a few years ago, the stand the club straight up at first seemed strange, felt like i was going to slice wildly, in fact it was the opposite, i started to draw everything slightly. If Mike does indeed do a full series, it's a much watch, transformed by ball striking to a different level. And as a guy almost 70, doesn't hurt my old body in any way, which is important to everyone, we are not elite athletes, yet 90% of youtubers are trying to teach elite touring pros swings as a model, with hold the lag, retain the angle, ground forces, rotate the body. The Joe Nichols way is piss easy, try it

  5. I've taken lessons from a Joe Nicols disciple and I like the way you describe and more succinctly explain the swing. I would pay for a DVD from you on his swing.
