The Edger — it is legal to mark in front of your ball, as long as you place it back accordingly 😉. Ball behind the marker.
Now if you marked in front , then placed the ball behind the marker, that would be Illegal.

It's not illegal to put the ball in front of the marker though. Just have to replace it in the same way you marked it.

2 weeks ago I went for the green on a short par 4. Faded on the inside of the turn. Went to look for it and was surprised to find it. Awesome chip shot from the rough and putted it in for birdie. On the next tee when i teed up my ball i noticed that my callaway #3 wasn’t my chrome soft but a warbird. Dismayed at this, I picked up my ball and told the group I was playing with that they needed to change my score from a 3 to a 4.
Never played with these guys before and there wasn’t any money riding on it. The father replied “ none of us would have ever known”. Well I did and there ain’t no f*cking way I’ll ever take credit for a birdie I didn’t earn.

We always play fall rules when you can't find a ball. If you're pretty sure that your ball didn't go into the woods, bushed or hazard, it's a free drop near where you think the ball landed. This has happened in the middle of the fairway on more than one occasion.
Some people are so bad at golf,they need all the help they can get,besides if you're on yo them it's funnier than shit😂
Literally 3 feet isn't going to change anything, especially with an amateur. They'll still chunk it 20 yards

It's not illegal to mark your ball in the front
Unless it's a tournament round or club comp, have fun. In a social round often move to a better lie, But never in comp.
As far as marking ball goes, the rules state you must mark the ball, but not what you mark with, or which side you mark. Often have to mark to side so not in front of other players line.
The type of marker doesn't matter.you can use a leaf, a tee, a coin, a bottle cap a stick, as long as you place ball in spot.
The guys who really need to watch for cheating at those who have 8 on hole and write down a 5.
Unless you playing for $ who really cares. Not being a butthole just saying I won’t lose a potential friend if we play for nothing. Have a friend that will beat me maybe 30 percent of the time we go out but he fluffs his ball literally every shot. I call him out? No I just make sure I beat him so it’s all for none

I try to play honest, mainly for myself to get better, but if someone I’m playing with (not in a tournament) wants to improve their lie why would I care. If they paid 100 bucks to go out and relax with me the last thing I’m gonna do is be a dick and check their balls, lol that’s such a ridiculous thing to hear about imo. The point is to relax and have fun, decompress from the world for a few hours, why screw that up with making sure they have the right amount of strokes written down when It doesn’t matter.
If you feel the need to be a winner that bad I just feel sorry for you.
Why cheat at golf as a casual player, it isn't like your score matters to anyone but you anyway, you're just cheating yourself.

Not gonna lie..been playing about a year and I never get out of the cart without a ball in my pocket lol..I still count "1 in 2 out hitting 3" lol more than anything its just embarrassing holding everyone up looking for a ball then I feel rushed and play even worse smh.
