I think that Brad is a very poor choice. I would love if he proves me wrong but the Tkachuk and Kadri issues are pretty bad as far as his history.

The one thing I'll say is, the Flames were done in by sub-standard goaltending in last year's playoffs. Markstrom was excellent during the regular season (had him in my fantasy pool), but in round 1 vs Dallas, Oettinger was by far & away, the better goalie. Calgary came within an a hair of losing that series in the game 7 OT. Against Edmonton he was even worse & continued his poor play into this season, with Calgary missing the post-season. There were other factors, but Markstrom's sub-par 'tending was the primary reason for Calgary's recent failures. Do you blame the GM? I guess, but what people slagged Treliving for signing Markstrom at the point that he did, because I don't remember anyone claiming it was a bad move. Sometimes well considered & researched player aquisitions don't pan out the way you envisioned them.
You can make a compelling case that in the Dubas regime, the Leafs were beaten by opponents with better, or hot goalies from Rask, to Merzlikins/Korpisalo, to Price, Vasilevskiy & the unlikely Bobrovsky. Andersen (Lamoriello) & Campbell (Dubas) were not clutch performers in the biggest games, unlike their counterparts. Samsonov was in this post-season, but got hurt & frankly with the heater Bob was on, I don't know if it would have made a difference anyway. Hopefully Tree is able to re-up Samsonov as I think he has an even higher ceiling than we've seen so far. Unless Matthews asks for the moon, then hopefully they resign him for at least 3 years. The Leafs are still a really good, playoff calibre team.
