In 2011, Bill Haas hit the most famous water golf shot to save par on the 17th hole of the Tour Championship to save par and go on to beats Hunter Mahan and win not only the Tour Championship but also the $10 million FedExCup.

To stay alive in his sudden-death playoff with Hunter Mahan at the Tour Championship, this turned out to be the richest playoff in golf history with the $10 million FedEx Cup bonus on the line.

After hitting his second shot into the water on the 17th hole at East Lake, Haas put it all on the line when hitting his half-submerged ball with a water explosion shot, and it worked to near perfection, splashing the ball out onto the green to 3 feet for par.

Bill Haas hit the best water explosion shot in golf history, was rewarded handsomely for doing so, and undeniably put a nail in the coffin of Hunter Mahan’s career on golf’s biggest stage, the PGA Tour.
