The GOLF Hip-Hack That Will Change Your Game FOREVER

So many of the golfers that I have helped over the years have benefitted from moving their hips better, and one thing that connects many of these golfers is that their understanding of what the hips should do was poor, changing that concept was an absolute game changer for them

The hips have to rotate in the golf swing, but do this wrong and it becomes so hard to hit good golf shots consistently, in this video I share a really simple visual to help explain just what you should do with your hips, and I know this can help so many of you out there

If you struggle with early extension, standing up, lack of rotation, stalling your turn and other faults this is going to be such a key lesson for you and your game.

It has always amazed me just how much a golfer can improve by having the right ideas and concepts about what should happen, sometimes it isn’t a drill or months at the range that makes the different but rather a better understanding of the golf swing and how it works.

  1. Best explanation and illustration of early extension ever produced and gives the fix to boot. Great video- Get that belt buckle behind your heels to strike the ball or if you will, pivot first around lead hip in backswing (moves trail hip back) and pivot around trail hip (moves lead hip back) in downswing to get that belt buckle behind your heels for great ball striking..Where was this kind of instruction 10 years ago?

  2. Thanks Chris, this is the best explanation I've seen of the correct hip movement and arriving into a "squat" position. I need a lot of practice. As I do the squat move I have a tendency to hit behind the ball. Would that be due to lack of rotation?
    Thank you!

  3. I just tried this with my 60*, my right knee came closer to my left knee, right shoulder comes down , slight tilt down on right side, right foot turns more easily without thinking about it….WOW….

  4. Great tip Chris. Thanks much mate, for all you do to help us old duffers get 'round the course a bit better with lower scores.

  5. I will definitely give this feeling a try , as after watching video of my iron swing recently , I notice I can't keep my butt cheeks pressed back into that imaginary wall…..I also recently discovered the feeling of standing up , while remaining tilted near impact , gives me a few extra yards…….

  6. Chris, when I practice keeping my hips back, it feels like my arms just wave at the ball with no power.

  7. Hi Chris, I think a lot of us do this wrong because we are always told to get into the left side at the start of the down swing. If instead you think about the pressure going into the right foot before moving into the left side, that fraction of a second stops the right hip moving forwards and interfering with the hand path. When you put early pressure into the left side, it actually stops the left hip moving backwards. Meanwhile the right hip is free to move forwards and get in the way. Apologies for the long explanation

  8. I’ve been working on this intuitively the past few days! So crazy you put this video up. You really feel the abs work when swinging driver doing this technique.

  9. With the alignment stick on the ground, the left hip moved towards the ball, but the graphic at the end showed it stayed still, which is correct?

  10. Almost every incremental improvment to my swing comes from one of your tips/videos. Please keep up the good work. Can I assume this one is applicable to both iron and driver swings?

  11. this is a perfect visualization for helping those (me) who constantly suffer from early firing of hips ! can’t thank you enough

  12. Great video. I have been working on this – or something very similar – but hadn’t thought about the hip pivot in the way you describe. Really really helpful and clear and simple. Thank you for posting 🙏

  13. ..brilliant instructor, this is exactly what I’m missing, exactly this,
    thank you Chris Ryan

  14. I've watched so many video's explaining the hip movements, but none of them explained it so concisely.
    Thank you

  15. In my 45 years of golf, never did I see this concept explained. Starting hitting it pure and I believe finally seemed to have found a cure for early extension. Need a few weeks to turn into a habit. Thanks !

  16. Chris explains hip turn in simple terms with visual artifacts makes it easier for us to understand. Thanks again

  17. Very simple way of explaining a difficult concept, the way I like to feel it is my chest moving down towards the ground in the downswing…covering the ball….

  18. Right hip pivot point? Brilliant. Scratch golfer here and I could say I’ve worked on many feels for keeping hip depth but this one is absolutely good. Thanks Chris!

  19. Hi Chris brilliant, been working on my swing for ever with no holy grail only incremental improvements, tried this today and the simple thought of pivot on the left hip then the right worked as nothing I have tried before. The swing became simple and balanced. I am off 4 with my bad shot a hook from a closed face caused by flippy hands trying to correct out of sync issues. While I didn’t gain any extra distance the contact became very consistent and crisp, my dispersion front to back and left to right was cut in half. Today I shot 5 over par with 2 three putt greens. Definitely put a smile on my dial. Keep up the great work, Cheers

  20. Nice illustration, Chris. I am having problems practicing this. Because body weight and pivots seem to be opposite sides. I.e in backswing my weight is on right leg but I am supposed to pivot with left hip. Vice versa in downswing. Grateful if you could clarify

  21. Thanks Chris. I am a 63 yr. relative beginner and have been working off your tutorials for about 6 months. The hip-hack is a revelation- a subtle change that has vastly improved the quality of my swing immediately.

  22. This is a brilliant tutorial I see a clip by scotty scheffler saying a while back that when he training he puts a pencil in the top of the club so it forces him to get his left hip out of the way. I didn’t know what he meant I do now….thankyou

  23. This is awesome. Mike Malaska demo'd this to Eric Cogorno and it helped me a lot. Thanks for the refresher, Chris! 👌🏾

  24. The most BRILLIANT lesson I have ever heard!! i have been studying hip rotation in conjunction with shoulder turn for 2 years now, and this is the best thing I've ever heard or seen on the topic. Thanks Chris!!

  25. Aware of the result, but not explained in this manner. Great demonstration. Thank you.
