Posting on all streams for Semi's, please let me know your thoughts!!
So here’s my take after watching these broadcasts this weekend. Note: I work in advertising & marketing and have friends who work in broadcasting and film, so I’d like to say I have some insight, but this is still subjective and speculative.
Justin Bergh said during test 2 that they felt showing highlights instead of broadcasting an event would bring in more people to the sport and that they were testing out some new ways to show these events. Tasked by the new CEO to find ways to bring new people into CrossFit, it seems they’re trying to focus on short-form highlights and utilizing their media team to create unique content fit for this day and age of shortened attention spans and "fast content," and not just streaming events.
Before I give my piece, I’ll say, at least I hope, that they’ve got competent people working at HQ with plenty of experience in marketing and broadcasting, and in light of all the changes the past couple of years, they are doing their best to balance the sport and needs of the affiliates worldwide. This is basically the equivalent of if the NFL not only ran the professional sport but also college, high school, and any sort of recreational football league (not nearly as big, but you get the idea). It’s an enormous task, and it seems (this is speculation) the money is not fully there at HQ to make the most of it.
Here’s what I’d do. First and foremost, contract out content to the plethora of current and up-and-coming content creators in the sport and focus solely on creating well-done and exciting broadcasting. There are content creators on every continent, Buttery Bros, Team Richey, the athletes who have their own vlogs, and teams like the Torian Pro and Mayhem Athlete. So why not say, "Hey, we want you to come here, use our equipment, bring whoever you need, and do what you do best: create fun content using your expertise and insight into the sport." This does a lot for both parties.
Content creators get the ability to build their platform while also promoting CrossFit for HQ. HQ can then focus on the event and broadcasting, cutting down on spreading workers too thin and getting them to work well on a few things rather than okay at a bunch of different things. You’re not only building CrossFit’s brand, but you’re not sacrificing your current membership and diehard sports lovers who have made it quite clear that the way the North American East was run was not it.
With the extra "short form" content that Berg talked about being taken care of with contractors, focus on the broadcast. Of course, this is not easy; it takes an army to make sure things work well and right and there are no technological issues. But without the need for extra content, more focus on this can happen. Lining up what the commentators are saying and talking about with what we’re watching on the screen. Giving the commentators more talking points and information about competitors that can be talked about throughout each heat. Bringing on different guests during earlier heats to discuss the CrossFit methodology, and so on. We can look at examples like the Olympics, Tour de France, Marathons, and other longer sports for ideas here. CrossFit has to test longer events, there’s no way around it, but that doesn’t mean it has to be a snooze fest. With the new standardization of workouts, you can't just let people run around the venue like they did at the Rogue Invitational in 2019. It creates unfairness because maybe the West is located somewhere more hilly versus the East, which might not be, so using runners and bikes and ski ergs is what it is. And yet using something like the giant race board from the marathon row in 2018 would make watching longer events more interesting to be able to see where people are.
And finally, I hope deep down that the people at HQ are diehard believers in CrossFit. In my opinion, you have to be if you want to work there. You’re faced with critique like this every time you come out with something, and if you don’t care deeply about the method, the sport, and the community, you will fight against this instead of taking it in and becoming better. People like Hiller, Sevan, and the people in the comments are the diehard fans who only want to make CrossFit as a sport the best it can possibly be. With critique, whether harsh or not, comes an opportunity to bring these to the table and say, "Okay, how do we get better?"
I love CrossFit, I love the sport, I hope it becomes as popular as pickle-ball has become. I digress.
Why is the day 4 livestream missing? Even on the Crossfit App it is unplayable.
Hope the one responsible organizing the streaming learns from the semis and we dont have these non-streamed events and missing days when the games are on!
Where is the final day stream?
What happened to day 4?
Really frustrated that all the events arent being livestreamed!
Where is event 6 and 7???

I really think brooke didn't give it her all, it seems her mind wasn't keeping up with her body, she was fatigued, I don't understand what happened. She looked like she's not there
