Mat Fraser’s Secret To Winning | With Brent Fikowski

Full episodes available on Spotify and other listening platforms.

Brent Fikowski and Coach ZT discuss the champions mindset and ways it may end up being toxic to the athletes pursuing it, like Mat Fraser, Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods and many other top level competitors. But can the average person make use of that mentality?

  1. There are plenty of people that have the high expectations mindset, but they aren't anywhere near actually good enough to win. Brent isnt like that, Vellner is not like that, Ohlsen isn't like that and they are still tip top

  2. Nice convo boys! I’m a tennis coach and a CrossFit methodologist. I love digging into what makes people better! Thanks for the great content! By the way the The Professor Project is Brent’s program and it’s ver very good!

  3. Love how open Fikowski is. Just very open about his emotions when it comes to training and the day to day.

  4. not sure anything was said here … until the last minute. if were talking dark side i would expect a video about how animal sacrifices could increase performance or some arc of the covenant instructions

  5. The secret is having CrossFit protect your PED use and being able to juice yourself to the gills and have guys like Ricky Gerard being the scapegoat

  6. Extremely hard working, dedication and peds.
To think any top athlete isn't using is stupid. Especially in strength based sports

  7. I think that any competitors making it to the games have a tremendous desire to win. I don’t think that champion’s mindset are much different. I believe that their results make us feel like their mental side is a differentiator when in reality I believe it’s purely talent and genetics at that point. The guy ending third in th CF Games is not there because he didn’t want first place as badly as the guy in first place. When we observe multiple title winners its easy to look at their mindset and think that this sets them apart but I don’t think thats the case. Yes compared to your average athlete but not to the guy getting a silver medal.

  8. I think different mindsets are appropriate for different sports. Strength sports would require different mindset than endurance sports or dexterity sports. A champion weightlifter will have different optimal mindset, than a champion marathon runner or long distance swimmer, and still different than curling champion.

  9. Polar opposites would be Tiger Woods and John Daly….obviously Tiger has more of everything, but in their prime, Tiger was extremely driven and hit balls 23 hours a day and Daly was at the casino LOL

  10. I remember Ben Bergeron saying, he doesn’t want to coach anyone who has the mindset of “wanting to make the games”. He only coaches people with the mindset of “I want to win the CrossFit games” or “I want to be the most dominant athlete this sport has ever seen”

  11. Mal has the mindset of wanting to dominate. I think if she can avoid injury, since she is so young, she could potentially chase tias record

  12. Every time Fraser is discussed on this channel I think they’re going to finally bring up how he’s a fake natty.

  13. They want it more… everyone has talent. When you get to the top of the top it's training more than anyone else and that's it.

  14. My last name is Winters and every time I here you say "hyper winners" I hear "hyper Winters" and I think you are speaking of me when I was back in grade school haha!

  15. Fikowski is a "hyper winner" he has been to the CrossFit Games 7 times in a row which is Incredible just by itself. Add on 3, 1st place regional wins, and 4 top five Games finishes plus many more examples. HOF for sure.

  16. A grey person to interview on this topic would be GSP. Dude had that same kind of crazy mindset.

  17. Louie Simmons always used to say stick with the plan no matter what. Get the work in adjust it if needed but get the work done

  18. Had to watch that Mat Fraser screaming at the crowd montage like 5 times. Gets me pumped

  19. Canadians used to always being a bridesmaid never a bride, is it capability or potential? No these dudes are beasts but they are severely weak mentally prob because Canada.

  20. His secret to winning was taking steroids and not getting caught. Had the same doctor as Tom Brady.

  21. I like how you talk about how the mindset fascinates you. I enjoy your videos as I am in the crossfit space, as well, I just haven't talked about it as much in my content. It's been my muse since I was a young kid, studying the greatest athletes and leaders of all time, learning about what makes them tick, all the stuff that fires us up to be better. So, it's cool to see someone else in the crossfit world talk about this.

What's really interesting to me is that it's often not always the most talented or the most gifted that embody this frame of mind. Sure, every now and then, you get the perfect combination of drive, talent, and an unbreakable mind. Then, you have a once in a generation "performer." But, look at where these people started and it's not always easy street for them. Michael Jordan being cut from his high school team is always a great example I think of, but even in other fields & industries, you have similar stories about how they developed into that person, it wasn't always natural.

    Good video man.

  22. Brent is speaking lots of truth here. There are several people that have the discipline and the expectation to be number one but there can only be ONE. Several factors cannot be overcome such as genetics. It can be a slap in the face to these other athletes that they just didn’t have as high expectations or work ethic as Fraser which isn’t true

  23. The depth of the contemplation of the trade-off of "winner mentality" seen in a larger group of people ….pure gold.

  24. mindset its definetevly more important than your level of crossfit, i have put myself limits when i used to train and caring about my body, articulations and heart rate, but since i test my limits in a competition i got more confidence about that, and doesnt care anymore about limiting myself i just give my 110% i every training, i tes myself every day and be the best at my crossfit box, everyday, i rememeber myself in the competition floor and then thinking like if i was there but just with my gym partners, i desconect myself everyday, and thats my mindset: dont limit yourself, tell yout body to shut the fuck off.

  25. There's only room at the top for a select few. Mindset and genetic gifts don't guarantee ultimate victory, as there are plenty of others with the same mindset and similar genetic gifts.
