There’s nothing worse than hitting a good drive down the fairway and then topping your fairway wood. With the 3 wood being the hardest club in the bag to hit from the ground, every golfer can benefit from a few tips to guarantee a better strike.
So how do we stop topping our fairway woods? PGA Professional Jack Backhouse clears things up for us.

Great information. Thx
Hannah, Are you okay? Looks like you did a face plant at 5:50. Whoops! Ha.
Right from the title I knew early extension would be the leading culprit! Get them a chair!
i have the 3 wood STEALTH 2 HD 16 degrees and very easy to hit …..also have the 5 wood and thinking of getting a 7 or 9 wood…..love these clubs….cheers from Canada
Wise words. Got any drills to stop me SHANKING!🤬
I’ve “sacked” my 3 wood. Use a 5 or 7 wood. I use to top my 3 wood off the deck 70% of the time. I probably lose only 10 m with good 5 wood compared to a good 3 wood off the deck. If the lie is rubbish I use a 4 H.
I have the Stealth 3HL 16.5 which is a cracker however I do sometimes hit behind the ball coming in steep, thick. Best cure for me is making practice swings until I am confident with ball position, often further forward then first thought. I only use the 3W a couple of times in a round but when I hit it well the stealth sounds sweet….
