Cameron Norrie smashes ball into Novak Djokovic’s legs as world No 1 turns back on net

Novak Djokovic was in command from the start and never really let up in beating the 13th-seeded Cameron Norrie 6-3, 6-4 to reach the Italian Open quarter-finals for the 17th straight year.

But early in the second set, Djokovic had already turned his back to the net to concede a break point when an overhead smash by Norrie hit him in the body. Djokovic then turned around and glared at Norrie, who had already raised his hand to apologise.

  1. Norrie didn't do it on purpose.

If he was aiming at Novak's ankles it would have ended up in the stand

  2. Nothing to apologize about. Giving your back to your opponent right before they hit an overhead is provocative and it’s intended to make the other player hesitate. Novak’s behavior was despicable and immature.

  3. Come on djokovic. You have replied in more precise way by kicking off norrie out of the tournament. 👍👌♥️

  4. Djokovic goes for the body all the time and gets mad when others do it to him, what a joke of a man this guy is…

  5. I don't think Norrie did it on purpose. I don't know why Djokovic is making a big issue about it in the press conference.

  6. Tory tennis strikes again, boring boring games so this is what's pushed as a highlight. Soft.

  7. Norrie was just doing what a lot of other people wish they could do to him. I certainly wouldn’t have been booing

  8. Poor from the South African, I mean New Zealander…..ummm…….American…….no! The British No 1.

  9. On the one hand, Novak should not turn his back during the point like that. I have not seen that before. On the other hand, Norrie is a highly skilled pro. He knew where Novak was on the court, and he has the accuracy to hit it elsewhere for a winner.

  10. Total baby rage, pathetic. Deserved it, great lesson to not throw his teddy out of his cot next time he blows a shot

  11. I mean he did apologise lol. What do you expect Norrie to do? Go down on both knees and apologise? Lol

  12. for me the most disrespected attitude were from Djoko. Why turn around during the point? How Norrie would know that his opponent just gave up!?

  13. Omg that is horrendous, could have had his leg off!

This poor millionaire getting hit with a ball the size of a marshmallow. OMG diddums.

  14. Absolutely nothing extraordinary in this moment. Djokovic reaction is too aggressive

  15. Nowhere in the rules state you cant go at someone with a shot. Dont think it was intentional by any means regardless and novak turned his back while Norrie was taking the overhead

  16. the point should have been repeated cause the ballgirl has clearly distracted both players 🙂
