The REAL Reason Behind the Mariners Slow Start…

The Mariners are off to a slower start than most expected. They’ve been in so many games, but haven’t been able to pull through. The one run magic seems to have left. What’s the REAL REASON the Mariners are struggling?

  1. Think there was a degree of luck, but we also had a slow start last year, and a bit of a down-spell last year. So, I think we'll bounce back

  2. I didn't realize our babip was that atrocious, but it explains a lot about how it's felt watching this offense this season

  3. Looking at the batting averages of our players, besides JK, is one of the most depressing and bewildering things I have ever seen. It seems the M’s current formula and philosophy is getting walks and and hoping for big home runs. It’s not working. Every player looks like they are ONLY swinging for home runs. Stop swinging for the fences and just try to make some solid contact. Ichiro had a completely separate swing for home runs, and he rarely used it.

  4. maybe far fetched – but any chance the new shift rules could be weighing in?
Would have to look at a spray chart from last year.

  5. Worst hitting team in MLB. One player [Kelenic] hitting .300+, one player hitting .250 [Caballero], and the rest under .239. The pitching has come around but cannot win if runs are not being scored. There is no bench depth. Huge weakness at DH, 2B [give Caballero a chance though], and SS [as usual].

  6. They're not unlucky, they're just playing sloppy baseball. There's a difference. They've had so many games where they fell apart in one or two innings, and blew the game. That is not unlucky, that's just playing bad baseball.

Not to mention their bats are colder than dry ice right now, it's anything, but being unlucky.

  7. Perhaps the Mariners should not even try to hit. Just put all effort into pitching, speed and defense.

  8. You could call it luck or just that fateful spark that seems to follow teams of destiny. The 2021 squad had absolutely no business winning 90 games, but they propelled the whole franchise forward several years and into their competitive window. Batters this year just look lost and downright uncomfortable in the box. Julio, France, Teo, Geno. Julio especially looks completely off balance; even when he hits a home run, he stumbles forward over the plate during his follow through.
I'm not saying one of the big 4 shortstops would've been wise or feasible, but the lack of signing another bat is sheer lazinees and greed by the ownership. The Mariners are officially the most profitable franchise in baseball, and the ownership seems content to cash their checks especially with the renewed hype in the team. Dipoto's hands are tied by the budget given him. But also the millionaire athletes need to step it up and deliver the productivity they're getting paid for.

  9. I think people forget the Mariners were 13-17 thru 30 games last year including two 4 game and one 6 game losing streak. This offense has not hit its stride at all and we are doing better than last year at this point. We dont have to be historic this summer to get solidly over .500 and contend for a playoff spot.

  10. i think we were worse through may in 21 and 22 right?
april is also our toughest month this year. i think if we are at least 500 through may we got a very good playoff chance

  11. I have no idea what I just watched. Teoscar Hernandez needs to go back to base running school

  12. Last night I was at the game. Looking at the Batting averages behind Kelenic made me throw up in my mouth.

  13. Just wanted to say y’all are some beasts, I never comment on videos but I watch y’all too much not to show some support!!!

  14. We’ve always had good starts to the season and then test our luck towards the end always looking for a magic # to get in the wildcard. I’ll rather have them get all struggle now and find a way to dominate in the second half of the season.
