Phil Mickelson certainly didn’t hold back when he powered to the defence of his fellow LIV Golf star Talor Gooch, with the latter set to miss out on the US Open following a change in qualification rules.

Phil Mickelson has brutally hit out at USGA CEO Mike Whan and accused him of a “d*** move” after a change in the qualification process for the US Open has seen fellow LIV Golf star Talor Gooch miss out.

Gooch was expecting to compete at the third major championship of the campaign this June, after being eligible to play at last season’s Tour Championship. This eligibility saw the LIV star secure a spot at last month’s Masters, but a change to US Open rules seems to have cost him a spot at Los Angeles Country Club.

This doesnt come as a suprise as liv golfers haven’t been afraid to voice their opinion this year! There has been so much debate and speculation around liv golf tour, liv golf players, greg norman, pga tour, pga tour players, dp world tour, dp world tour players! The biggest thing about this story is the magnitude of players this involves. Ian poulter, lee westwood.. and i’m sure the likes of tiger woods, rory mcilroy, matt fitzpatrick will all be sat there thinking we knew they make and change the rules.

    I was promised a big bonus from my previous company that i earned, but didn’t get paid because i made a decision to go somewhere else. He made a decision to go to another organization and has to live by the rules. Why does anyone really care and just enjoy the great golf that is happening on the PGA tour. If your favorite player is at LIV watch streaming. Phil’s comments on LIV originally and then deciding to go seems like a bigger dick move to me.

    The best should compete against the best. The rest is politics. They are acting like offended little kids. The USGA is acting like a company but it’s about golf. In every field of business it’s always good to have competition. In competition you are able to grow. That’s better for everybody at the end. Maybe they should start a new event: the 20 best golfers of USGA against the 20 best golfers of LIV in Ryder Cup format. The whole world of golf would watch such an event

    PGA and USGA have shown their true colours again, very disappointing. They are bullies and would rather maintain their power bases than work for the benefit of golf as a whole.

    What’s the point of having open competitions and not allowing players that qualify to play, sounds very suspect.
    Think Phil in this matter has a case.

    These golfers made a choice PGA or millions of dollars they picked liv and lots of money now shut up play on liv tour PGA does not want these players back period and I don't want to see them on any tour again. Bunch of whinners

    Taylor broke his contract with the PGA when he joined Liv. You guys keep on forgetting that. That was in their contract and they all know it. Plain and simple. A professional baseball player can't play for the Yankees and then go over play in Japan for another team at the same time. The Yankees just won't allow it. That is the business side to sports.

    I'm sorry the USGA is getting involved in the money spat between 2 professional tours. Open Championships are just that, OPEN! The best players should compete period!

    Listen the powers that be in the PGA and their puppies being the Golf Channel are a bunch over paid babies that are two faced idiots..the way they treat the best players in the world even much better than who is playing in the PGA, which is totally boring now. I still play but I dont watch anymore because of the things the PGA is doing..if they are SO offended about LIV golf why are they raising the prize money and implementing some of their format…its stupid and uncalled for..Phil's not ALWAYS right but yes he is in this matter..shame on the PGA and their small minds

    LIV need to create their own points ranking system, and DP and USPGA players should both be insisting LIV players are allowed in the majors, otherwise their validity is destroyed, and all their kudos as a world tournament with only half the best players in the world taking part, is questionable.

    The TPC relegated itself to a second tier tourney, aka The Greater Jacksonville Open. The US Open is following suit. The winner will have to live with the fact that he won a tournament at a great course with a sub par field. The Majors are supposed to feature the best golfers in the world. At least we still have The Open to look forward to. The USGA is shooting itself in the foot. LIV golf isn't going anywhere and the woke PGA will play second fiddle to them if they continue their bias. If I need a nap, I watch the PGA. If I want to watch golf I watch Liv.

    Mickelson was seen to be the shadow of a reincarnation of Arnold Palmer in the high class manner in which he conducted himself. Now he should be seen as a destructive, malevolent force against the US PGA bought and paid for by money he does not need. The Masters, US Open and OPEN can make their own rules but LIV Golfers should never set foot on PGA soil ever again. As a former Phil fan, and Mickelson should keep his profane comments to himself; he is LIV not PGA.
