Warnock's plan was simple. Let the already tired (and slightly hungover) Blades players run themselves into the ground in the first half, then rely on a break or a bit of magic in the second half. The Ward goal was a worthy winner, but he would never have got the shot away if Basham had been 100% committed to the tackle! The game meant nothing to the Blades, which is why Hecky played people out of position. Had they needed points, Ward would have been marked by first choice defenders like Egan or Ahmedhodzic. That is the genius of Warnock. He took advantage of the situation and made sure his players wanted it more!! Well done, Neil 👏

We could learn something from Huddersfield. Instead of faffing about trying to work an opening into the box, sometimes a surprise strike from a yard or two outside the penalty area pays dividends. Doyle's late shot against Blackburn in the cup is evidence of that. Fans are always forgiving of someone who 'had a go,' rather than forever trying to open a way into the box only to keep foundering on a solid defence.
