Jim Montgomery Doesn’t have “much regret” on How Bruins Series w/ Panthers Went | Bruins Postgame

BOSTON, MA — Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery talked about what he might have done differently throughout Boston’s first-round Stanley Cup playoff series against the Florida Panthers.

“The only thing I can look at right now and say I would have done different is start of Game 5 I would have had (Patrice) Bergeron and (Brad) Marchand together,” Montgomery said. “Took me eight minutes to get to there. Don’t know if it makes a difference. That’s the only thing that I look at that I would change. I don’t have really much regret with anything that we did. That’s why I said I have to analyze more of the series and have a better, more intelligent answer about where we went wrong.”

  1. What an embarrassment!!!! How about being prepared and leaving ur panties in the dressing room ? Not my Bruins 🖕🖕🖕

  2. florida wanted it more , plain and simple they just attacked our defense and we turned it over way to many times , sucks but it is what it is

  3. As a long time Bruins fan I'm heart broken. 1/4 of the losses suffered thru out the season in a 7 game series. Its gotta be even more disheartening for the players. As for the coach, he can't control bad decisions that lead to unfortunate circumstances. The Panthers won. They were the better team. No regrets Coach. Thanks for a hell of a year.

  4. O' Well ! They can play hockey but APPARENTLY NOT A TEAM ! OR was it just the Ray Bourque curse ! JUST SAYING

  5. NO REGRETS!?!?

How about not resting guys or not having them play limited ice time the final two games of the season?…. How about changing lines for the heck of it in the freaking playoffs?… How about not sitting the goalie that is clearly hurt for your other Top 3 in the NHL goalie?….. How about not removing Forbort who has been getting beat everytime on 5v5?…. How about not telling your team to just pepper the net instead of doing all the flashy BS?…. How about not telling your team to get the puck outta the zone even if it might be icing?….. How about not telling your team to go full throttle in the final two minutes and not let Florida have an entire year to make a decision in our zone?…. How about starting your 4th line in Game 7s overtime?….. How about not practicing puck management and blue line entry at practice when it was clearly a huge problem?…. How about not following the formula that has worked the entire season?… I'm beyond frustrated….

  6. Starting Ullmark 6 straight was a very questionable decision. The defense had some bonehead plays that cost us too. No gripes about our offense, but the coaching and defensive choices cost us the series. They need to at least own up to that!

  7. "No regrets" my ass. Best regular season in NHL history went to your heads. You will now be forever known as massive chokers. Enjoy the ball busting for the next 100yrs! Couldn't happen to a better fan base 🤣🤣

  8. He needs to be fired. Done with all the excuses and the "disappointment". Nobody is taking responsibility for the MOST EPIC COLLAPSE IN MAJOR SPORTS HISTORY. They are saying all the wrong things right now. Gonna be hard to support moving forward with him at the helm

  9. Bottom line is he made no adjustments along the way and ended up getting a free clinic in coaching from Maurice.

  10. First problem to fix is the quality of ice in Boston. The puck bounces around so much that games become more an outcome by chance than skill. It becomes like watching kids play street hockey with a tennis ball. Next up get a ratio of Canadian players on the team, Florida had 14, Bruins have 6. Bruce Cassidy advances with Vegas having shaky goaltending but has 25 Canadian players listed on roster. Even Seattle advances with a waiver wire roster but high majority are Canadian.

  11. sHOULD BE FIRED AS WELL AS THE REST OF HIS CHOKER TEAM, AND EPIC FAILURE…chokeR bruins fans NOW have more time for what is dear to them…PUTTING MEN IN DRESSES IN LITTLE GIRLS SHOWERS

  12. Sack him hasnt got a clue. Why change for the playoffs its unforgivable best season in nhl history then choke annoyed is an understatement

  13. The first time the bruins coach was challenged all season and he failed miserably.
This was an epic coaching failure all series long.

  14. This happens in sports sometimes, where the underdog is hungrier and simply out works the other team. Similar to Miami beating Milwaukee.

  15. I hope the movers are packing up his household goods right now. We don't need regular season champs. We need Stanley Cup champs. This choke deserves a house cleaning, top to bottom.

  16. If he doesn't have much regret then he should be fired. If he doesn't have much regret then what you're saying is I don't care.

  17. Biggest disappointment I’ve ever seen. Best regular season team of all time my ass. More like biggest choke.

  18. Man I wish he clarified and said it’s not Swayman’s fault. Sounded like he was disappointed in him. The game would have been over a lot sooner than overtime if it weren’t for the goalie. It was a lot of pressure to shoulder for a young 24 year old.. he played well.

  19. Best player on the ice was swayman to bad he only played one game…. Charlie did everything including put a puck in the net . Why not just trade him to fla… Presidents trophy come with 20sets of golf clubs because the boys couldn't wait to hit the course… I'll play pickle ball next year so I won't be investing any times on the bruins , .. this derailment will haunt them forever

  20. This clown should be fired. Bruins fans will get to watch a real hockey team like Toronto mop up the floor with Florida.
Any playoff team in the west would have knocked out Florida in 5, including Winnipeg.

  21. Your the biggest screw job of all ullmark had the least to do with the team losing, only problem with ullmark is that he was in a state of shock by watching what was happening in front of him, you had a 3-1 series lead and decided let's change everything up and bring Bergeron back into the lineup along with Clifton and others, and ever since that everything fell apart and you never won another game!!! After losing game 6 you telling the media that game 7 is about seizing the moment!! NO GAME 5 WAS FOR SEIZING THE MOMENT!!! THEN YOU SAID THAT EVERYONE DREAMS OF PLAYING IN A GAME 7 AND HOW SPECIAL IS THAT TO LIVE YOUR DREAM. EVERYONE DREAMS OF PLAYING GAME 7 IN THE STANLEY CUP FINAL, SCORE THE WINNING GOAL AND WIN THE STANLEY CUP!!! NOT A GAME 7 IN THE 1ST ROUND OF THE PLAYOFFS WHERE YOU HAD A 3-1 SERIES LEAD TO ONLY SHIT IT AWAY!!! YOU TALKING LIKE WERE ALL A BUNCH OF FCKNG IDIOTS THAT DON'T KNOW NOTHING!!! NOW I SEE CLEARY HOW THE OTHER TEAMS FIRED YOUR PATHETIC FCKNG ASS!!!!

  22. I thought Jim was the man but it’s inexcusable to coach the way he did. Inexcusable. I’m not big on Sway at times but a ton of respect goes to that young man. It’s not fair him owning this loss. Wasn’t his fault at all.

  23. He’s a humble man, gives credit where it’s due…… as good as Boston was all year they were not the best in this series, and he admits it

  24. You were out coached and you didn’t take it seriously after game 5 to make a smart tactic decision how to beat this team for one more game. I call this a rookie mistake and don’t see you have any future left coaching the Bruins!

  25. complete and utter CHOKE and FAILURE….take your "best regular season record" and wipe your ass with it. bunch of no show BUMS

  26. I hope Bergeron and krejci were really hurt and you weren’t resting players during the playoffs or another word that comes to mind is stupid. How about you were out coached.

  27. My favorite moment of the 2023 playoffs has been seeing Bergeron and Marchand embracing each other while crying. Reminded me of Brokeback Mountain.

  28. Montgomery will forever be identified as the coach behind the bench for the club that ran roughshod over the rest of the league a manner never before seen, whose team is likely to take home an assortment of league hardware, perhaps including the Adams for best coach, the coach who, along with goalie coach Bob Essensa, it is alleged, had knowledge of a supposed injury to their top goaltender yet played him anyway, who saw the relative laborious form of Bergeron but knowing the captain was a gamer played him, who was unable to figure out what was the most effective and cohesive lineup to face the Panthers, the head coach who was unable to make adjustments, in-game or otherwise to get this team past Round One of the playoffs and the coach who doesn't have "much regret" for this incredibly embarrasing result.

The only way I see the Bruins removing this cloud over the collective heads of the franchise is to do what the 2011 edition did the year after they dropped a 3-1 series lead to the Flyers: Win the Cup in short order. Stranger things have happened but I don't see that on the horizon.
