Is There A Problem With Anthony Gordon? | Newcastle United Latest News | NUFC

During Newcastle United’s 3-1 victory over Southampton on Sunday Anthony Gordon was substituted at half time by Eddie Howe. There’s been a lot made of this in the media and on social media too, that Gordon is somehow not living up to expectations at NUFC. In this video I look at those claims and address them.

  1. If I trust Eddies judgement then yes I do believe Gordon will come good. Iam sure I’ve heard Eddie say that he had watched Gordon for some time (years) prior to buying. I think Eddie would have seen what Gordon is all about and no doubt Eddies back room staff would have reported back to Eddie what they saw/herd.

  2. I don't think it is a problem now, but that wasn't his first issue. Also Howe needs to learn how to handle stars. Obviously Gordon isn't a star at this point, but he was signed for a lot of money and barely got any game time. If Howe wants to remain the manager for the club going forward, he needs to manage all the egos that come with it. So far he has had a starting eleven and 10 Championship players to handle. That will change. Probably even this summer. So he could be a bit more giving when it comes to game time.

On the flipside, I already prefer Gordon to ASM, to be honest. He was a bit unlucky so far, but he looks like he knows what he's doing, instead of just looking down and running all over the place, passing the ball into no mans land. As sad as it sounds, but everytime you see the squad without ASM, he's looking more and more like a relic of the past. He was the best we had for years, but Gordon, Isak, Trippier and a few others are miles ahead of him in terms of quality. Even Longstaff has made a decent development and looks like he has a future at the club. ASM? Not so much, I am afraid.

  3. Yes he will but need more time,on Sunday Eddy got it spot on 0-1 down we needed to put some fair in to THE SAINTS and we did.

  4. From the beginning, I did not agree with the purchase of Gordon at an expensive price of £ 45m, this is already like a mafia, it is suspected that there are markups, try to think that with the achievement of only making 2 goals at Everton, it is valued that expensive, there are many better and cheaper footballers than him, why should buy mediocre players. No wonder his presence is like a pebble in a shoe, aka not needed

  5. I don’t think there’s any problem with AG. He’s really young still and has allot to learn, he’s just left a really toxic environment to a completely new one, and you can tell he’s not quite up to speed with the rest of the squad because we’re miles better than Everton atm. I think once he has a good pre-season with Eddie Howe he’ll be really good. There’s a reason why we were after him for a while. Trust the process

  6. There's no problem. We didn't sign him to go immediately into the starting eleven. EH likes to develop and coach players to get the absolute best out of them. Was never going to happen overnight. He's 22. All will be fine.

  7. Howe has worked wonders with so called shit players give him a pre season with Howe and he will be on fire next season

  8. The is nothing wrong with Gordon when he get his goal we will see a different player simple as that 👍👍👍👍

  9. Didn’t get it when he was at Everton, don’t get it now he’s at Newcastle. Not even sure he’s a footballer

  10. Our club didnt pay 40m for a dud player Gordon will come good in time and I honestly think we will see a totally improved Gordon next season once hes had time to settle into life in the NE and Eddie Howe helps develop his game more over the summer like Alrimon, Joelinton and Murphy etc.

  11. Theres no problem with Gordon imo once hes properly settled at the club and has more coachinh from Eddie Howe to develop his game I think we will see a totally different Gordon but that wont be until next season.

  12. He's jusst had terrible luck so far. Needs a goal to build his confidence and with that he'll start progressing massively

  13. He reminds me of steve mcmanaman before he went to Real Madrid. Lots of running but not much end product.

  14. There is no problem with the lad, his departure from Everton led to some rather unpleasant comments and scenes by supporters of his former club a lot to take for a 22 year old. His unfortunate reputation has proceed him especially in Everton/ Toon games, then he got injured. If anything is probably trying to hard. Next season after a full pre season we will see a different play. Patience is required remember Joelinton first couple of seasons.
