About Neil Lennon:

Neil Lennon is a successful football coach and former player hailing from Northern Ireland. With an illustrious playing career and an equally impressive coaching record, Lennon has left an indelible mark on the sport.

Neil Lennon’s Early Playing Career:

Neil Lennon began his football career in England, representing Manchester City, Crewe Alexandra, and Leicester City. His performances on the pitch earned him a move to Scottish giants Celtic in 2000. Over the course of six years, Lennon made more than 200 appearances for the club, and in 2005, he was appointed as the captain.

Apart from his club career, Lennon also represented the Northern Ireland national team, earning 40 caps and scoring two goals over nine years.

Transition to Coaching:

Lennon transitioned into coaching in March 2010, when he was appointed as the caretaker manager of his former club, Celtic. This appointment followed the departure of Tony Mowbray. Lennon’s tenure as Celtic manager proved to be successful as he won three Scottish league championships, two Scottish Cups, and qualified for the group stage of the Champions League twice, making it to the knockout stages once. However, Lennon decided to leave the club in May 2014.

A brief stint in England saw Lennon managing Bolton Wanderers, but financial issues plagued the club, and his tenure there was short-lived. Lennon returned to Scottish football in 2016, this time joining Hibernian as head coach. Under his guidance, Hibernian achieved promotion back to the Scottish Premiership and secured European qualification in the following season. Lennon’s time at Hibernian came to an end in January 2019.

Celtic Comeback and Beyond:

In February 2019, Lennon made a sensational return to Celtic, initially on an interim basis. He successfully guided the team to both the league and Scottish Cup titles. His contract was subsequently renewed, and Lennon continued his winning ways, securing another Scottish league title and a fourth consecutive domestic treble by also winning the League Cup and Scottish Cup in the 2019-20 season. Lennon eventually left Celtic in February 2021, as the team had fallen far behind rivals Rangers in the Scottish Premiership.

Lennon made a comeback to football in March 2022, becoming the manager of Cypriot club Omonia. In less than three months, he led the club to win the Cypriot Cup – their first since 2012. However, Lennon’s tenure at Omonia was cut short due to disappointing results in the domestic league, and he was sacked in October 2022.

Neil Lennon’s journey through football as a player and coach has been marked by incredible highs and some challenging lows. From captaining Celtic as a player to leading them to multiple titles as a manager, Lennon has left an indelible mark on the world of football. His passion for the sport and desire to succeed make him a respected figure in the footballing community, and it is only a matter of time before Lennon finds his next opportunity to make an impact on the beautiful game.

  1. I have so much admiration for Neil Lennon. You can't keep a good man down. He's like us all. We're all complicated individuals at times. I wear my heart on my sleeve. I love my football team Celtic.

Lenny has been a public figure in Scotland for 2 decades. He's been brilliant. It's never boring with Neil Lennon. He's never been broken. He's been honest in everything in his time living in public life. He won the cups for Celtic. He was part of the legendary O'Niell era. It really hurt me to see how he was treated at the end. And I never went along with it. I've never met Lenny if I did bump into him I'd shake his hand.

Hail hail. Neil. Get yourself back into Scottish football. It needs you.

  2. A role model. And an inspiration that's what I would describe him as. And a tremendously successful footballer and manager for Celtic.

One Neil Lennon. Something inside so strong.

  3. Great insight into the dressing room in the covid season. Cheers Niel. Fascinating. You did your best! All of our heads had blown off that year. Horrible time it was.

  4. If you lose the edge. And lose the anger. Drop out. Never stop Lenny. Never change. Fantastic stuff.

  5. Straight talking and fair as ever from Lenny over the cup final team selection. Celtic are going to thump them tomorrow.

Fantastic interview Peter. Having a wee whiskey cheers to you both.

  6. Taking Celtic to Dubai during covid and forcing us to play reserve sides when players tested positive when they came back. Losing twice in one season to Ross County. Continually falling out with players. Terrible when dealing with the media. Just about the complete opposite of AP you would say.

  7. Hé will always be a legend at the club. Still has a lot to offer to plenty of clubs.
He changed Hibs mentality when he was there.
    Guys a total winner.

  8. Love lennon, the man bleeds green,he was let down by a team who put down the tools, was and still is a great manager 💚

  9. A hope he gets a job soon ,give Neil time to build and he Will build a great side ,

  10. Losing 10 was certainly not just Lenny s fault.
The amount of great years this guy gave our club will always be remembered. Celtic Legend 🍀💚

  11. A legend who is unfortunately remembered for his last mistake. Let’s not lose sight of all that he achieved both as a player and manager.

  12. This was different class. loved it. Cheers Peter. Big fan of the show and was happy to shake your hand at the Billy McNeill statue unveiling in Bellshill a while back but Lenny is an absolute warrior. He has put up with things in life that no one should have to go through and anyone with a decent sense would never wish on another human being….But he was a great player and captain. Did it his way.

  13. Respect from Dons fan,, biggest compliment can give is a player hated by every other team was Neil Lennon,,but every other team and supporters would have him,,, Scott Brown same bracket
