Is Matt Crocker a good fit for US Soccer?

Matt Crocker has officially joined US Soccer as it’s new Sporting Director after stints at Southampton, England and Cardiff. Is he the right guy for the program? What exactly will he bring to American soccer? What will his responsibilities be? Why did we hire him? How will guys like Christian Pulisic, Gio Reyna, Weston McKennie, Ricardo Pepi and Folarin Balogun fare in this new era of US Soccer?

  1. What is there to know about US soccer besides we are average at best lol. U could literally review every club player in a few days. New outsiders should be good

  2. How many Americans did he sign in his years as a Southampton administrator. None? There is a real risk he is an anti American British elitist just chasing the bucks and less pressure/competition.

  3. Congratulations on the new place Pete! I am not excited about Matt Crocker, I just want the new head coach ASAP.

  4. What the heck does the GM do for us soccer if the director chooses who the coaches are and the coaches pick the players?

  5. Pete, really enjoy your work. Loyal fan here. Congrats on the new place- Here’s a house warming gift! Also, maybe we can connect sometime. I have a small nonprofit that I started after my brother lost his legs in Afghanistan (the American Bionics Project). Would like to learn more about sponsorship if it will help bring some awareness to the nonprofit! Best, Steve Galeazzi

  6. pete great video glad you are able to do more videos now because i agrre with about 99 percent of the time ps grow hair back out for like a contest or a charity or something

  7. The only thing that Matt Crocker needs to do right is to find a great coach for the USMNT, one that will recognize true talent and play them, instead of continuing to play the same old MLS Lifers. Tactical flexibility and ability to adjust team tactics to the actual talent on the field is also critical. Tactical rigidity isn't the only problem, it's recognizing the specific talents and weaknesses of individual players and designing the tactics to maximize their contribution to the team, instead of always trying to plug square pegs into round holes. i.e., no more trying to play Kellyn Acosta at defensive mid, no more trying to play Feirrera as a 9, no more sticking Gio Reyna out in the wing forward spot. Play CCV instead of Zimmerman! etc.

  8. I don't think Luis Enrique would be a problem: when he coached Barcelona, he actually made them a lot more direct and less possession-based than they had been before under Pep, Vilanova, and Martino. He adjusted to the elite talent he had up front with the MSN. With Spain, he didn't have elite strikers, but he had elite midfielders schooled in the traditional Spanish possession-based style, so he employed that style. I think he's shown a good flexibility to adjust to the personnel he has at his disposal.

  9. If they hire Jessie marsh I'm probably gonna be very concerned of how we're gonna do under him I mean it's gonna be very very worring As a USA fan

  10. Yes 👍, what do you want another mediocre milk toast American? I don’t. Let’s face it unless USA 🇺🇸 improves we will have another bad showing on home soil.

  11. IMO Crocker is just an employee of USSF, as are Cone and J.T. Batson. All serve at the pleasure of the Board of Directors, USSF so I have No confidence that a Transparent and Open Global Search for USMNT Coach will ever take place. (FYI Batson's background is in finance , software tech, advertising, and media. As is most of the Board members. Cone is the Only employee at the executive level who is a former high-level player and she was brought in following the scandal of former President Cordiero ) Of course, the USMNT Fans have No say in the matter! Organize, create a USMNT Fan Association and then we can Demand Change and even a Seat at the Board!

  12. Shoutout to you for persevering Pete, sometimes life just loves to throw us into tough situations to mold us into better versions of ourselves.
