Energize Your Backswing Then CHILL For Proper Golf Swing TEMPO w/ @elitegolfofarizona

Watch this video to harness proper golf swing tempo for tour like smooth action! In this last installment with @elitegolfofarizona , we show you how to energize your backswing so then you can chill in transition and get the speed out front. Coach TJ of Elite Golf Schools also introduces to us to the Tour Tempo Total Game app (https://apps.apple.com/us/app/tour-tempo-total-game/id329937776), a helpful tool to master your own tempo. The app can also be very useful for those of you looking how to increase increase swing speed. This is a different type of golf speed training. Some of us have a faster tempo, while some of us have a slower tempo. Some swing like Fred Couples and Ernie Els, while others swing like Nick Price, yet the ratios of the greats all appear to be about the same, 3:1. Each can work and be seen throughout the history of the game, but the key is to improve on your own tempo so you can still sequence it right when it matters. We hope you enjoy this episode and addition to our Elite Golf series!

  1. Wow, this is amazing! Especially the energizing early and then let it float to the top. I always misunderstood this apparently as I tried to hit it further with a faster backswing, I put energy in all the way back. Now I also understand why some people say the backswing is over at first parallel. Thank a lot, this will help my game massively 🦾

  2. I use Tour Tempo from wedges to the driver and the short game tempo with less than full shots and putter. ⛳🏌️
Takes most mechanical thoughts out of the equation.

  3. I like to think of applying speed as pushing someone on a swing set. It works the best if on the way up you collect them, then you follow with your hands on until you get near the bottom of the arc of the swing then you apply most of your speed. Your not waiting as much as feeling when it feels best to add speed. I think the thought of waiting tunes out feeling, and you want to feel when it is optimal to add force. Just like pushing someone on a swing you are monitoring when it’s the best time to add speed (unless you don’t like them). You try to never interfere with the circle.

The other note about tour tempo is that it’s important to not anticipate the second beat. When you hear it you change direction. Obviously, you know it’s coming, but it’s important not to change directions hard in reaction to the second beep.

    Nice video. Alan.

  4. Very helpful explanation of tempo, putting energy in(takeaway), chilling out (top of back swing to P5) and letting gathering energy in and through impact.

One disappointing aspect to this excellent video, was failure on how to put energy into the club early before de- accelerating to the top. You miss an opportunity here to explain how this is done.

  5. Milo, why don’t you incorporate your left arm sling move into the 21/7 or 24/8 rhythms. Would love to see how the sling move works in conjunction with the tour tempo rhythm.

  6. Great job guys on tempo vs rhythm.
We can play good golf with good rhythm and sketchy mechanics but lord help us vice versa.

  7. Does tempo have much or anything to do with control of the low point? Wondering if there's any relation between those two things?

  8. I think of transition as the energy applied early in backswing being stored in the muscle stretch reflex also. The magic of the stretch reflex is so rare to see in recreational golfers. Hence good rhythm so rare.

  9. Great information !!Excellent way to learn timing and feel of a proper golf swing !!

  10. Really informative, whole new ingredient to be added to practice session. Just 40 years too late for me. Keep up the great work

  11. Energizing? Any difference with coiling up? With loading? Great TEMPO lesson, most critical key word IMHO.

  12. Lol I went to download this app and pay the 25$ but it said I had already bought it on a previous device and just needed to download it! Me and Henry both rush things I think we could both use some time with this

  13. This is the feel I've been working on for the last few weeks. When it's clicking it's really amazing because the path and face control just gets so easy. I can just feel the club float up and fall into a position where I know I can just turn and it will all line up right.

  14. I like to time it by feeling my back to the target as I float to the top and re-centre. It really helps me to keep my arse on the wall and more. That’s where the power comes for me. I’d be curious to see what my split would be. After watching you guys I would guess around an 8-24 but it might be faster.
    Thanks

  15. Jacob 3D pretty much validates this point. When an elite golfer masters this move they can transition their body while the center of mass of the club stays back which makes it easier to "lay down" the club for the desired shape shot. Koepka even with his helicopter move on 3d the center of mass is relatively still even though the handle is move all over the place That's why there is no desernible difference in performance in shafts for elite golfers. They are so intuned with this move that they can easily adapt their swing. That attunement then allows them to align their left hip and left chest to rotate around much like a well oiled hinge on a door. Less timing is involved Thus shaft is more of a preference. Good video guys

  16. Milo and Henry, nice video. I'm having a hard time understanding how this 'chill concept in transition works when the gears data shows the fastest hand speed from p4 to p5 in tour pros…any insight?

  17. Wow! I didn't realize how much time I had to fall into my lead foot and open my hips before delivering the strike. This should be Foundation #4.

  18. I think this is such a huge benefit in golf waiting for the club at the top and timing it up , but it is not taught enough , great video ❤

  19. Great video, great advice. Went to download the app. It's £25. £25 for a metronome – no thanks.

  20. Milo – can you please do a video of your driver & iron swing in slow motion from side-on? Or point me to a past video that has this? Thanks PS – We were staying at Arizona Grand Resort in Tempe last week and tried to come visit Superstition County Club but the security guard wouldn't let us in !!

  21. If you set the tour tempo app to voice commands you get a better sense of the second tone and where you should be. So…swing SET through…Easier to differentiate. Sometimes the tones all sound alike and it's hard to distinguish when and how to move.
