  1. My best friend still uses the irons that that 1 iron comes from. He has 3-SW but no longer uses the 3 iron. He smashes them and they stop dead on the greens. He did have new shafts put in them around 2000. He is 65.

  2. I used that club in 1972 onwards. It was a club for tight, tree lined fairways. Off the tee l hit it 220 yards, usually straight. I also had 3-SW. Playing links it was essential. Ping released a Karsten 2, Karsten 3, known as the rail, finally Karsten, can you guess, 4. The sand wedge had a lot of bounce, but it didn't tell you how much. The clubs cost about £20 each. They were the most forgiving clubs of their day. I played about 15 years with them and sold them for more than l paid. Sandy Lyle was the best exponent of the Ping 1 iron. The tour pros could not hit driver (260 yards was a long tee shot) as far as Sandy hit his 1 iron. When Sandy hit the ball out of the sweet spot, it made a noise that sounded like a high pitched 'ping'. Keep practicing James, you may put it in the bag.

  3. I think you should have used the ball we used back then, I think you would have not faired as well as you did. Imagine a full set, 6000 yds was a monster!

  4. I have a Wilson Staff Fluid Feel 1 iron. I use it as a driving iron and it replaces a 4 and 5 wood. I have no trouble hitting it.

  5. I had one of those back in the day I thought it was a brilliant club to have really wish they was a modern day 1 iron on the market

  6. Back in the late 80's or early 90's my buddy and I got asked these two guys behind us if they wanted to join us and make a foursome they did and one of the gentlemen had these same Ping irons. He played collegiate golf at Syracuse University with Wayne Levy. Any way it was the best golf I had ever seen and I was a 3 hdcp at the time (no longer, not even close) but he put my Eye 2's to shame that day. Wow so pure.

  7. I struggle to get a par with all the clubs and dude is doing it with a 100 year old 1 iron. FML

  8. The best club to carry in a lightning storm as Lee Trevino quipped….not even God can hit a 1 iron

  9. I have two 1 irons, both Mizuno, one a blade, the other a TP Zoid that is in my current set as I’ve just got back to golf after about 15 years away. Used to hit the blade about 300yds but I was in my early 20s then. Am struggling with the TP Zoid although slowly getting the 2 iron to work

  10. I've still got a Ping Zing 1 Iron which I used about 25-30 years back.. Not in the bag now I hasten to add lol

  11. How is Laura doing James? I bet she is getting excited about the baby and getting the nursery ready.

  12. best i can do is i have a Titleist 690mb 2 iron… it's always amazing when i can hit the ball well with that club

  13. The K1 clubs are from the late 1960s. They were supposed to be revolutionary. All the other companies offered blades only. Many people were fooled. From forged blades to cast clubs was more of a transition than I wanted to make. The feel was terrible to me.

  14. I love your question concerning putting with the Ping 1-iron: “Is this the Ans(w)er?……No! It’s a 1-iron🤭

  15. I used one of those back in the day … it was cutting edge and I loved it … not terrible in any way just not what a modern player might expect. Back then i had Ben Hogan persimmon woods … Dunlop Maxfli Australian blades (tiny heads) and a Ping Anser putter … and played off 2 …so I’m sorry but your comments are born of ignorance
