Domination On The Mur de Huy! | La Flèche Wallonne 2023 Highlights – Women



La Flèche Wallonne Féminine is the third oldest one-day race on the women’s racing calendar. Taking place in the French-speaking region of Wallonia in Belgium, it tackles a 131.2km hilly route around the Ardennes, concluding with an ascent of the iconic and brutally steep Mur de Huy – 1.3km in length, with an average gradient of 10% and a maximum of 26% – where the best climbers in the world go head-to-head.

    👸Demi is on excellent form.
    Hopefully AVV’s form comes around soon, but for all I know she’s timing it perfectly for the TdF.🤷🏻‍♂️

    Demi Vollering looks in amazing form however, the tour is a few months away and the long big climbs favour others. That being said, she looks like she has taken a huge leap forward in performance from last year and I did say last year that I think she is a tour winner at some point.

    I thought maybe she could win in 2024 but she may actually be in with a chance this year, because so far, Annemiek Van Vleuten doesn't look in the same sort of form as last year. It certainly is creating some intrigue as we get closer to the tour.

    Just an observation: Coming from men's highlights video where there's loads of doping accusations against Pogi, but in women's, Vollering dominates in much the same way and not a single word about doping? Nobody ever brings it up when a couple of the same girls win everything. Vos, Van der Breggen, Van Vleuten, Deignan, etc.

    Never liked Vollering personally. Always seemed like an arrogant person and the way she treated Kopecky at Strade Bianche this year was wrong

    In the Gold Race she had the right timing and just enough punch to get away on the final stretch. Here she simply dominates. Watching Demi, I always wonder how much she would improve, if a fairy took away the anxiety and insecurity. She´s got the legs to be "simply" relaxed and confident. Maybe a triple can do the trick?
