About Allan McGregor:

Allan McGregor, the veteran Rangers goalkeeper, has etched his name in Scottish football history with his remarkable shot-stopping abilities, commanding presence, and unwavering loyalty to the club. Having spent more than a decade guarding the posts at Ibrox, McGregor has played an integral role in the team’s successes over the years and is considered one of the best goalkeepers in Scottish football history.

Early Career and Rise to Prominence

Born on January 31, 1982, in Edinburgh, Allan McGregor joined Rangers’ youth academy at the tender age of 13. After developing his skills within the club’s ranks, McGregor made his first-team debut in February 2002. He went on to establish himself as a reliable presence between the sticks, eventually becoming Rangers’ first-choice goalkeeper in the 2006-2007 season.

Success at Rangers and Beyond

Throughout his career, McGregor has enjoyed numerous successes, both domestically and in European competitions. His trophy haul at Rangers includes multiple Scottish Premier League titles, Scottish Cups, and Scottish League Cups. His performances during the 2007-2008 UEFA Cup campaign, when Rangers reached the final, were particularly impressive, showcasing his ability to excel on the biggest stage.

McGregor also had a brief spell with Turkish side Beşiktaş and a successful stint at Hull City, where he earned plaudits for his performances in the English Premier League. In 2018, he made a triumphant return to Rangers, further solidifying his status as a club legend, reaching the UEFA Europa League final in 2022.

A Pillar of the Scottish National Team

In addition to his club exploits, McGregor has been a mainstay in the Scottish national team, earning over 40 caps since making his debut in 2007. His consistently strong performances and experience have made him a vital component of the national side.

Is Allan McGregor One of the Best in Scottish Football History?

Given his longevity, consistency, and the silverware he has accumulated, Allan McGregor is undoubtedly one of the finest goalkeepers to have played in Scottish football. While comparisons to other greats like Jim Leighton, Andy Goram, and David Marshall can be subjective, McGregor’s impact and influence at Rangers and for the national team cannot be disputed.

His exceptional reflexes, ability to read the game, and command of his area have made him a formidable presence on the field. Moreover, his leadership and experience have been invaluable to both Rangers and the Scottish national team, inspiring teammates and providing a sense of security at the back.

  1. It's always Sevco bringing the scottish game down. It would have been better for scottish football and society if, when they died, they remained dead instead of a zombie club calling themselves the same club existing. Pure poison.

  2. Remember the time rangers died and "the keeper" said his contract was voided and didn't TUPE over to new club….Good Times dignified loyalty lest we forget

  3. Remember when he left…..what was the transfer fee received ra rangurzz?

  4. McGregor has saved Rangers bacon countless times over many years, his performances at times have been game changers and if he wasn’t a Rangers player I might be a fan but I’ve been impressed many times with the world class saves he has made even in the last couple of years , giving credit where it due ☘️

  5. I agree 100% with Peter re: SPFL sponsorship and Marketing. I wholeheartedly hope they do something to fix the current situation of sponsors and take away self-interest from top clubs. And I say this as a Rangers supporter.

And yes, McGregor is the best goalkeeper in Scotland, even at his age.

  6. Alan McGregor couldn't wait to desert that sinking ship hms rainjirz when the grim reaper was a knocking at the door🤣🤣 legend🤣🤣

  7. The keeper that ran away then slithered back and the gullible put him in there hall of fame along with Davis who did the same.
Can't wait for there next list of players to enter the hall of fame which will be Naismith, Whittaker, Aluko, Laughable, Ness & McCabe who all did the Running away also

  8. Peter, Peter, Peter!!! Rangers aren't issuing yet another share issue to try and keep up with Celtic, They are issuing another share issue so they can put a couple of power cards in the meter.
The quicker The Rangers go bust for good the better the whole of Scottish football will be

  9. Would love it if some oil Barron dynasty from overseas looked at scottish football and decided to invest millions in 2 lower league clubs . Can you imagine QofS and Elgin city breaking the OF dynasty. Or have a Red Bull Auckinleck Talbot !!!
