If you hit your provisional ball shorter than the original ball can you hit the provisional again or must you look for the original ball before any subsequent hit. Most players I speak too believe if you hit your provisional before looking or finding the original ball you have to continue playing the provisional?

Playing provisional would be 4th? I would have thought it be 3rd. ?
The next shot she plays using the provisional will be the fourth shot, 1st – lost, 2nd-back to tee 3rd- safe, 4th- the next shot.
