I realize this very well may not happen, but, given Cousins age and if his arm strength tails off (I think it already is somewhat) would you try and sign Cousins as a back up in 2024 if the Vikes get their qb in two weeks?
I'd have to disagree with Florio. Cousins us good enough to get them where they want to be. Their defense and oline is keeping them from where they want to go. I'm surprised Florio cannot see that.

Kirk is the most reliable QB we have had since Fran.
I feel if you are bringing Kirk back at least one more season, might as well bring Dalvin back for one more as well but geeez louise, give them both a descent offensive line for just once. I would love to see what both these guys could do behind a quality line protecting and blocking. Everyone knows neither man has not seen a real quality O line since they have been Vikings.
Florio is a more polished speaker than simms. And it's not close

And this is the same reason no one wants to give Lamar jackson big money he runs too much but simms would be all over his jock saying he should get paid because he is a quarterback
The question is why did he play for two years injured instead of having shoulder surgery in the offseason last year or the year before? He waited until the vikings wanted to cut him or trade him because he is no longer elite.
I saw him get run down by a linebacker one game and repeatedly run straight into piles of bodies rather than looking for open field. On one play he fumbled and hurt his shoulder because he ran straight into the back of his own blocker. He did have three or four big plays for the season but not nearly as many as he used to. He is still capable but no longer elite and no longer worth a big contract. The vikings will be lucky to get a fourth or fifth round pick for him. I would rather see the vikings get a younger, faster runner with better vision.
Cook is very good however gets banged up and as a rb ages that only gets worse

Vikes are crazy if they let a super talent like Cook walk only because they're convinced they can save (comparatively) a little bit of money. You can find the difference between a rookie and the highest paid RB in the league in the backup QB room of dudes who will never see the field.

I agree Mike and Chris, Cousins isn’t that guy to spin out reset and carry a team to a SB win but there damn sure isn’t a guy in this draft not named Young who has that potential or in free agency. That’s the issue there isn’t a better option. It’s easier to build the team around Kirk to give him what he needs to get it done than gamble on a Hooker or Levis and ride a rookie deal building a team only to find out your QB is half the player Kirk is. We’ve been down that road also.
The Lions ran into this with Jamaal Williams, where he got mad, went somewhere else – and ended up with the same/less money than he could've gotten from Detroit. Golic always said, "Don't let it get personal. It's business!"
Don’t pay running backs. No exceptions. Pay your OL, Edge rushers, corners, and QB – you get way more value for money. You can pick up a decent RB every year in the draft.
He’s been extremely productive the past 4 seasons and is earning his money, why don’t they cut costs with some of they’re underwhelming overpriced defensive players or Kirk Cousins?
Dalvin Cook does not want $10.4 million this year, he wants an opportunity to negotiate a new contract. I am sure he would be willing to endure the $10.4 million this year with the Vikings, but I don't think that is his first choice.
Kirk cannot be expected to overcome that bad defense.

Picking a developmental QB who is already 25 years old is insane to me, at least in the first round.
If you wanna trade back for maybe two 2nd rounders (since the Vikings don’t have a 2nd this year), then it’d be fine to use one of those on him if he is there. But good lord I’d hate that pick if they made it at 23. Just take a day 3 flyer on DTR or McKee on day 3 if you want a QB lottery ticket.

Dalvin Cook no longer have that lateral explosiveness and quick feet movement you generally see in young healthy backs. He can still go under the right conditions but he is limited. Unfortunately, that limitation is the difference between a TD and a field goal. He is no longer elite.
