My name is Brian Fitzgerald – I’m an Australian full time golf coach living in Melbourne and coaching at two venues. The Bayviews GC on the Mornington Peninsula south of Melbourne and the Lang Lang GC in South Gippsland (both an hour and a quarter from Melbourne) where there are lot’s of Kangaroos.

FAQ:
How long have you been a golf coach? I qualified as a full member of the Australian PGA back in 1985. Wow I don’t feel that old.

Why do you make videos for YouTube? That is a great question and one I get asked a lot. I love helping people play better golf and people tell me I have a very unique coaching style that is very simple to understand. We really should do things simpler. I just make them to help people and if people like my videos they can either come for a golf lesson in person or if that is not possible you could join my membership program and I can then view your golf swing or any part of your game and really help improve what you do.

Do you always change some ones golf swing? To be perfectly honest I try not to. If I do try to change some ones golf swing I have to have a pretty good reason for doing so and the client has to be fully engaged and committed to both regular coaching and practice in order to make that change. Most people say they will do both with good intentions but most fall away pretty quickly.

So my preference is to change things that will improve their score easily. There are so many different ways to do this.

What do you film with? – I have a few few different cameras I use. An old GoPro Hero 4, an iPhone 6 and iPhone X, A Sony ZV1 and an old Panasonic Handy cam (I’m using that less and less now). I record my sound on an old iPhone 4.

What do you edit with? – About a year ago I switched to Adobe Premiere – prior to that it was Pinnacle Studio

Do you make money off YouTube? – Yes.It took me over 100 videos to make my first total $100 off adsense and then another 50 videos to make my next $100. I think it will slowly change, but VERY slowly.

I really enjoy your videos, how can I support you? – Here’s my ko-fi where you can buy me a coffee, beer or a burger should you wish (kind of like giving me a tip via : https://ko-fi.com/thegolfdoctor

Thanks for watching!

  1. Laying up on the par 3 10th at Spring Valley is my strategy.. Not a lot of room short either. There are worse places than front left bunker. Playing long is also an option, no bunkers at the back

  2. Fitzy, I’m not having this. No way to play the game. A high handicapper would likely still mess these shots up and then you look like a right goon.

  3. Smh. Learn to hit a bunker shot. If you're playing for a 4 on this hole, from the tee, then your score really doesn't matter. Might as well TRY to play the hole properly. You won't learn to play from bunkers by taking such extreme measures to avoid them.

  4. Except a bloke playing off 18 has the striking ability reflective of his handicap. "I'm just going to do a gentle swing" – Duff, thin, bunker, 3 putt, wipe.

  5. I just can’t do that. But with that said on par fives I’ve been using my six iron a lot more instead of a 3 hybrid. I
Get what ur saying. But I’m trying to hit greens

  6. Or hear me out…… you practice striking and you use a 8i and you out it on the green. If you do put it in the bunker (since you practiced) you sand wedge it out

  7. Sorry Fitzy, this is poor advice for both life and golf! If you're scared of a shot, find 30 minutes to practice and expel that fear👍

  8. boring golf. scores vs playing golf. learn to play. that said, there certainly is strategy and play to safety zones .

  9. Use a 5 iron on a par three and do not go for a green which any +20 handicap should be able to get to with a pw…..interesting…

  10. I hate this advice. A high handicapper will never score playing like this. No chance at bird. No chance of getting the feeling we all love, with a great iron shot. Bunting a 5 iron feels horrible compared to a Purina wedge.

  11. The advice is sound COURSE MANAGEMENT, this hole rates 13th hardest hole, so anyone on 14 hcap should play as a personal par 4. for 2 points.
As handicap improves then they should aim for green or play more aggressive IF the situation allows.
Your video and the idea behind the advice would have had more impact sinking in to everyone, if you used a par 3 = 150m (165yds) with a deep bunker on left, where even good players struggle to get ball close or a water hazard on left.
    .
Maybe a video on how to play long (160m (176yds plus par 3 holes} as high markers struggle on these holes and this type of scoring strategy is ideal for all golfers on these long par 3's

to those golfers on here who criticize this strategy realize that playing the game and scoring is not about hitting perfect golf shots, with perfect golf swings its about moving the ball around the course in lowest shots.

  12. I do this all the time, especially if I'm hitting it really good! I can shot in the 70's, but not if I hit in in the bunker on 15 and make a double. Sound advice, I've had people laugh when I've done this, big deal. I'm keeping the game simple. Works for me.

  13. Spot on advice. The voice of experience. Very sound and rational. Thanks for the great advice.
