Hi I’m Matt Lockey, welcome to my Coach Lockey YouTube Channel. This YouTube channel is designed to help you play better golf, and to help you enjoy your golf more!

I specialise in golf course vlogs, golf challenges, golf tips, golf lessons, golf club reviews and the odd golf club unboxing. So pretty much everything golf!

I want to help you play better golf by providing coaching videos on all topics about golf. How to fix your slice, fix your hook, help you drive the golf ball longer, hit your irons more pure, hit your irons closer to the hole and help you draw and fade your golf shots.
As well as helping you produce the best long game you can have, I will help you lower your scores by chipping better, stopping duff and thin chips, pitching the ball closer and creating backspin like the tour pros. Finally, I will provide you help to putt better and hole more putts too!

If you enjoy the channel make sure you hit subscribe and also tap the notification bell so that you are always notified when I release a new video.

  1. Club sellers/manafacturers are gonna take a hit out on you mate, you better lay low for awhile after this one

  2. I carry 7-9 depending on wedges that I want to use. Even if I carry all 14, I don’t ever use them all.

  3. Great info…I play with a half set and a Callaway Super Soft GB all winter. If I'm flying to play, I pare my full set down to 10 clubs regardless of time of year. Saves on luggage weight. #TeamAl

  4. Be very interesting to see if u were more likely to club up and hit easy or club down and smash it as a stat.

  5. I play with less than 14 all the time because my driver spends most of the round in the naughty corner not to be played with.

  6. When I was a kid, I only had a half set to learn on. It never occurred to me then that I "needed" more clubs. I just learned to play with what I had.

  7. I figure I'd shoot a few extra strokes thsn usual, but nothing catastrophic.

Like a 90 instead of an 84 kind of thing.

  8. It’s funny how I never use certain clubs but I lug them around. I would keep…
    Driver, 5w, 6,8,P,58 Putter

  9. Waste of time, change grip, swing length, swing speed etc? Or just use the proper club?? Why take a bag? Just put your clubs over your shoulder? Why use a distance measuring device? Take it away and make it harder. Why use a tee. It’s all a stupid idea.

  10. every xmas '@ RNDevon, our society has a 5 club challange & its always well supported with some good scores coming in.!!

  11. Allowing less clubs would make the golf companies scream out loud 😂 I’m bagging a D, 23H, irons 27,36,45,54 and for sure my putter. Went down from 23 to 11 last year and my friends not laugh about my equipment anymore 😎

  12. I think your onto something it would show how creative golfers are. Most can average near 300 off tee so why have so many

  13. I reckon I'd hit about the same. So many rounds I play I look back at my bag after and some of the clubs I wouldn't have used at all, and some just once or twice. I'd take driver, 3W, 5, 8, PW,  56 degree, and putter

  14. I think what it can do is help you think a lot more on every shot instead of just going up and hitting it.

  15. Played 4 club and putter comp the other week and shot 37points with 3 blobs. 3wd 6 iron 9 iron sand wedge

  16. I like carrying a lighter bag so I often only play with a driver, 4 6 8 PW SW + putter. Not sure it affects my score much and means I have to be more imaginative with some shots.

  17. Another good video and great tips keep them coming. See you have changed shoe brand and gone with the masses FJ

  18. I'd LOVE the USGA/R&A to roll back the ball… But once the genie is out of the bottle he's NEVER going back in

  19. 15…..i always have 15 in my bag (no not in competition just general play) why? Well when you are practicing or playing a friendly round you might want to take a club you rarely use (my 4iron or my 3 hybrid) in a competition round i would take the hybrid not the iron but how am i going to get better at hitting the iron if i never use it?
Yes on most rounds i can guarantee there will be clubs I don't use and i have taken 5 clubs out .
I used to practice greenside bunker shots with a 4 iron (yes a 4 iron) it just livens up dull repetitive practice)
If i had 6 to choose i would probably take driver 5 wood 6 iron 8 iron PW and SW and then putter makes 7.
I have gone round with driver 5 iron 8 iron SW putter….it can be a fun round

  20. 9 holes in the week and i take half set. Then week after I will use the other half. 3/4 approach shots improved. If full swing is not on point its a good go to skill.

  21. I love this idea about the half set. I would love to see the pro’s do this on tour too to see how creative they really are and how good they really are. Great stuff Coach! I have yet to do this, but I’ve been wanting to for a while. I venture I may even score better! LOL

  22. most of older players more than likely started with a half set never realy made a lot of differance as you rightly said you just hit it harder or softer but dont think i would like to go back trying to masyer one swing is hard enough

  23. When the course is closed for trolleys, I use a lightweight bag and a half set and score around the same.

  24. As a high handicapper i feel like I have developed these skills naturally because I'm not aware of and not consistent enough with my distances therefore the feeling of "this is a hard six, or a soft six" is something i rely on to get around. Maybe these skills are something you actually lose when you get better and start playing golf more consistently.

  25. You could get away with 8-10 clubs… Putter, Sand Club, Wedge, Short Iron, Mid Iron, Long Iron/Hybrid, 4 or 5 Wood, 3 Wood and Driver. Throw in a Chipper and you have 10. DON'T put a chipper in, and take OUT one of the woods, and you have 8.

  26. I've never hit my 6i or 9i on my home course. I've played there so much I know what to hit to get me around and never needed them for a yardage.. but I can guarantee if I took them out the bag I'd need them 🤣

  27. My best scores have come with either a 7 or 8 club bag. Forces creativity, but also means you don't take on un-necessary risks (because you don't have a club to take on the hazard, or a club to really get out of one)

  28. I have no problem with how far touring pros hit the ball. The solution is to make the courses more difficult.

  29. we, seniors section, play 4 club + putter comp every year, scores are comparible if not better than ful set!!

  30. I laugh so hard watching your videos, the information is solid and the way you present it coach is outstanding! I leave you with a boring par LOL! Great job sir
