Wasn’t cheating. Set the mark well behind it due to the pitch mark the ball sat on. Once he re adjusted the ball he moved his mark back to where it originally was.

A friend of mine used to cheat until we called him out on it, he placed his marker in front of the ball then put his ball back down in front of the marker.

My problem is, if Lexi Thompson gets a 2-stroke penalty for marking her ball from the side, instead of from behind, how does Morikawa get away with this… Then there was the time when Anna Nordqvist was in a trap in a playoff for the Women's Open… Somehow, two grains of sand moved. To grains of sand. The close-up camera showed it. And she got a penalty and she was OUT.

You have to watch the full clip. It is zoomed out so it's harder to spot but he pulled the marker and set up for the put them his ball rolled back a few inches. So he set his marker back down and moved his ball back to where it was before the ball rolled. Then marked his ball and set back up for the birdie put. Followed the rules completely. Too many people are only seeing the clip that shows his ball 2 inches from his marker.

People, it's 100% cheating. You can't arbitrarily place the marker 2 or 3 inches behind the ball as you see fit and then subsequently adjust the ball either to line it up or position it differently because of imperfection in the green. If you need to repair the green, you mark your ball, use your putter head to then distance the marker one putter length over, fix green, then reposition back with putter head length. You can't just say, "ehhh I'll place the mark about 5" behind the ball". Like wtf are y'all not seeing here?

You would have to see where he put the original mark behind the ball. Maybe he placed the mark a couple inches behind the ball, as long as the ball is in the same place, it is legal. There is not standard length from the ball to place the mark.
