Air Coryell and the San Diego Chargers’ offense was electrifying in 1982, but could they bomb the Browns and their awesome offense? Check out this exciting game to see plenty of offensive fireworks!

  1. Cleveland had a horrible playing surface, one of the worst. The Wizard of Ozz, arguably one of the best TE's to lace them up, went on to become one of the best GM's all time. Dave Logan a Colorado legend retired to Denver and became a sports radio personality, a high school coach, winning several state titles and is now voice of the Broncos on radio 85 KOA (mega station voice of the Rockies). Thanks Brother I appreciate your work.

  2. I came, with my family to San Diego in 1979. Just as Air Coryell was taking off. The San Diego "Super" Chargers had one of the most explosive offenses ever. It was essentially the Sid Gilman offense reborn. A wide-open attack that used the threat of the long pass to set up the Run. Gilman used this with the Rams in the 50's, and the Chargers in the 60's. Al Davis would take that philosophy to Oakland. And Don Coryell, salute for finally making the HOF, brought it back to SD. I vividly remember John Jefferson with some the most amazing catches. Winslow was a great TE. And of course Fouts making it work.

  3. As you indicated, Cleveland curiously drew a sparse crowd for an otherwise intriguing matchup with the Chargers. The Browns played to the level of the attendance; low. Weird, but likely fan revolt from the strike explained the many empty seats at, what some called, "the mistake by the lake". Even with the league's explosive post-merger success at the time, two labor-related work stoppages ('82 and '87) likely wore on a lot of fans.

  4. 3:21 and 3:38-'82 top draft pick Chip Banks likes to deliver a hit, albeit late. Despite this hiccup, he would end up NFL defense rookie of the year. What else would you expect from Banks anyway? He came out of USC where his teammates were Ronnie Lott and Dennis Smith; others who loved to level opponents. We see Mike Pruitt, but where's Greg? Oh, he became an L.A. Raider and ended up a SB champion after the following season.

  5. 17:20-you are absolutely right! It's one thing to have the somewhat obvious nickname, "The Wizard", but he lived up to it! He really was great!

  6. Missed FGs, dropped passes in the end zone, 2 drive-killing interceptions – not a good showing for the Browns. Their bright spot was Ozzie (82), the HOFer, and Defensive Rookie of the Year; Chip Banks (56).

  7. Awesome love the Air Coryell Charger Years Especially with Wes Chandler or John Jefferson. Dan Fouts was the Man , Until Joe Montana Took Over. 1982 great year for me

  8. Watching this game on Chuck Muncie's last run he grabbed his knee and haven't seen him since, but James Brooks certainly filled in very nicely. Wonder if Muncie was seriously hurt??

  9. Charles White very could’ve been the biggest bust in the NFL to ever win the Heisman.

  10. Looks more like an Indians game for attendance. (I know they are the Guardians today)

Rolf Benirschke was so bad as host of Wheel of Fortune, NBC cancelled the show after 14 years. Because Pat Sajak hosted a late night talk show on CBS, it was considered a major conflict. CBS eventually picked up the daytime edition of Wheel of Fortune with a clean-shaven Bob Goen as host (yes he had a moustache) and personally, I found it cheap. Some spaces were UNDER $100 on the wheel!!

Unless I'm mistaken, Tom Cousineau's last game as an Alouette was a loss to Ottawa in a mud bowl at Lansdowne Park. Other Alouettes in 1981 included Vince Ferragamo and Billy 'White Shoes' Johnson. Due to financial problems, the Alouettes folded soon after and new owners came in and renamed the team the 'Concordes' but used the Alouettes old equipment in 1982.

Charles White looked like he had part of Larry Csonka's facemask. The only player who had an interesting facemask I recall was 'Madden Curse' member Peyton Hillis.

Not sure about those orange pants the Browns wore with their 'Seal Brown' jerseys. (Jerseys look black to me)

  11. Shout Out 2-U!!! You Know A Little Bit About Football!!! Great!!! Great!!! Great Video!!!! REAL TALK!!!!

  12. Nice Fouts jersey – I have the white one – let me out it on now for this video

  13. Larry Csonka fashioned that nose protector U as part of his face mask as well. Don't know if the rest was identical.

  14. Wow, what a great jersey, one of your finest I had to freeze to study and appreciate.
Even though the 1982 season was a mess with the strike I'm shocked the fans didn't return for the regulars here.
What a game by Ozzie and that would be a nice jersey to consider, a nice old Brown 82. Also, nice tip of the hat to Charlie Joiner he deserved it.
Check out the helmet to helmet hit on the Fouts pass to Chandler @22:30 wow, they never considered calling those back then.

  15. Always loved Chuck Muncie (Go Cal!) wearing the glasses as a runner and receiver. A talented man going to WORK. (Like Kurt Rambis working the boards.)
