Teams that will shape the 2023 Draft: Indianapolis Colts & Detroit Lions | Fantasy Football Forecast

Our teams that will shape the draft series rolls on this April with the Indianapolis Colts and the Detroit Lions. Matt Harmon is joined at the top of the show by our very own Scott Pianowski to report on the pulse of the Lions franchise, but before that they tackle a few pressing news stories.

First, they talk about the Tennessee Titans reportedly being interested in trading up for the third overall pick, currently held by the Arizona Cardinals. Next, they talk about Dalvin Cook’s recovery from a February shoulder surgery and whether he may be shopped by the Minnesota Vikings later this offseason. Closing out the news segment, Matt & Scott discuss reports that the New England Patriots may have tried to trade Mac Jones this offseason amid purported animosity between the former first round QB and Bill Belichick.

Next, Matt & Scott dive into what the Detroit Lions could do in this year’s draft, with both the 6th and 18th overall draft picks. With a strong roster that barely missed out on the playoffs, could they take a QB with their first pick in an attempt to find a long-term solution after the Jared Goff era? Or will they bolster their offensive and defensive lines and possibly add a tight end replacement to TJ Hockenson?

Afterwards, Matt is joined by Yahoo Sports senior NFL writer Charles Robinson to get an insider’s take on the Indianapolis Colts, who, with the 4th overall pick in the draft, certainly have their eyes on a QB. But could that QB be Lamar Jackson instead of one of the 4 top incoming rookies? Charles explains all of the different scenarios that could befall the Colts in what is shaping up to be a chaotic draft.

0:00 – Introduction & a Star Wars tangent
7:16 – Tennessee interested in trading up for 3rd overall pick?
12:29 – Dalvin Cook’s recovery from shoulder surgery & Minnesota’s backfield
15:23 – Are the Patriots shopping Mac Jones?
23:25 – What will the Detroit Lions do with the 6th and 18th draft picks?
42:11 – Colts want a QB, but will they get the one they want at 4th overall?

  1. The Lions taking "a nose tackle" when hes the best player in the draft is sort-of a big deal. Not taking a guard at 18 after signing Glasgow and restructuring Big V. The Villain will surprise us all again just wait.

  2. Lions were 9-8 with the bottom ranked defense I think they're expecting more than 9-10 wins this year after this free agency. I'll argue they set themselves up better than the eagles this off-season.

  3. Could the Lions take a tight end sure but I think it's just as big of a possibility lions don't take a tight end at all in this draft. Brock wright was just fine last year when Hockenson left

  4. Stafford never won a playoff game. The Lions have 1 playoff win since the Super Bowl era.

  5. The lions the only team in NFL history to get a 15 yard penalty for crowd noise 🤔🤔🤔🤔 WTF

  6. A big surprise pick for the Lions would be to take Bijan Robinson with the 6th pick in the draft. Let's face it, after the first 5 picks are gone most teams are trying to figure out who should be taken with their pick. Robinson is considered to be elite level for a running back even though running backs are not currently highly valued. He is definitely worthy of a top 10 pick and even though the running back group is considered to be one of the best groups in the draft, he sits alone at the top of it. Imagine if they had Swift, Montgomery and Robinson as their running back core behind that offensive line. All of a sudden you help out your quarterback a whole lot by putting him in shorter 3rd down situations. And you can run the ball effectively at the end of games to close them out and give your defense a break. No more 40 to 45 point shootouts.

  7. TE? The Lions have three decent guys that caught TDs last season. The top two had multiple TDs. It would be a wasted pick to get a TE at this point.

Now that the FA season has mostly played out of the big names, it would make sense for the Lions to bulk up on both sides of the line, LB, and developmental QB.

  8. It’s already been noted but the Lions haven’t won a playoff game since ‘91. Stafford never won a playoff game. He went to 3 and lost all 3.

  9. What playoff wins has Stafford ever won in Detroit drop the date!!!!! More blah blah channel talk with limited research

  10. Lions definitely needed that last win because if greenbay would of won they would of went to the playoffs instead of Seattle also Stafford did not win a playoff game

  11. Doubt they are taking a TE in the 2nd rd. They have 3 that they really like, they run Tackle Eligible A LOT, and the TE isn't really a big part of their offense.

  12. Does this guy cover Detroit sports? I’m a Stafford lover but to say he made us relevant for a decade is a huge stretch they were still terrible outside of two seasons while he was here

  13. You are both correct on both counts!!😂 Empire is the best overall & Rogue 1 is the best of everything after with Endor a solid 3rd!

  14. Lions never won a playoff game with Stafford. We also were terrible except for a few years…..
