Greg Norman | First and Last | The Open Championship

Greg Norman, with his striking blond hair and power game, compelled attention. His attacking style did not always come off but twice he played rounds of such quality that he could not fail to win two Claret Jugs.

‘The Great White Shark’ made his Open debut at Turnberry in 1977 for The 106th Open Championship. He missed the cut, but this tournament would be the first of 27 Open appearances. In that time, the Australian would go on to win The Open twice, in 1986 & 1993.

In 2009, in a moment of pleasing symmetry, Norman would make his final Open appearance at Turnberry, 32 years after his debut at the same course. The 138th Open would be where this former Champion would bid farewell to the world’s oldest golf tournament.

This is the First and Last of Greg Norman.

  1. Massive "LOL" on this.

Still wished he won the 2008 Open, would've been insane to see that then Tom Watson win in 2009. If only…

  2. shouldn't be endorsing this piece of work, no matter how brilliant a player he once was. sports-washing for a grotesque regime is something the R&A should not' be touching. Sorry to be boring, but it's important.

  3. Saw him play several times
Long and straight with the driver
    Very precise irons.
A great putter, especially sinking medium range birdie puts.
He was world number 1 for a long time -years.

  4. The Irony here is wild.
One of the hardest workers who coveted his major wins and took aim at many who he didn’t Believe worked as hard as he did.
Greg’s Golf was on a level that the modern pro will never understand, however his commentary and complacency in his own ego have sunk him forvever. The title says it all.
