LAZY GOLF CLUB REGRIPPING / STOP DOING IT!

If you pay money to have your golf clubs regripped, they should be done the right way. However far too often some club repairers will use these lazy short cuts.

If you want to start regripping your own golf clubs, check out some of these links!

  1. Did my own the other day. I wanted an extra layer, so I left the old one. I felt kinda cheap but not really.
If I paid someone and only wanted one layer, yeah I might be a little miffed, especially the short section of tape… What the…?

  2. Do you have a video for us on how effectively remove grips if we want to save them whether it's graphite or steel?

  3. I knew what this was gonna be before I even got play.Another lazy regrip thing I see is wrapping the tape around the shaft like a candy cane stripe.C'mon guys!🤣

  4. Thanks for showing this. I have wondered about using the existing tape on a re-grip. Would it actually work? Also, could you not use air to install a grip over the old tape?

  5. I wont let anyone work on my clubs anymore after the bs they pull. This is one I saw after doing my regrips. I did immediately notice thicker grips but didnt know why. I remember mentioning it to them. Im a sensitive golfer

  6. Do you/club fitters still use white spirit as the liquid over the tape and grips or are their alternatives. I have always used WS but you refer to 'solvent', please can you advise.

  7. I sometimes will do a full length tape on top of my old tape because I wanted the grip to be a little thicker. Until you showed us the 3 inch or partial tape method, I've never seen it before and would never use it on my clubs nor anyone else's….

  8. Hey there AJ – I am with you and hate short cutting especially when you are talking about saving pennies!! – BTW – do you ever take a high grit sandpaper to the shaft to get the excess old tape off? Would love to know what you do to get those old little pieces off. TY!

  9. This is the reason I grip myself now. Local pro fitted me with new tour velvets and they came back much thicker than old grips . So uncomfortable

  10. I'd be pissed… but at the same time, how would I even find out? That's what's even more infuriating about it.

  11. I have probably done over 50,000 regrips and have never seen the two inch method. Maybe there is a place near you that is doing that. Yes the tape over tape method is a huge problem. Regripping is so easy and to know its getting done right you should do it yourself. Its very common for regripping to be done by the new hire that is 15 years old. Like the new guy gets thrown on the deep fryer in fast food lol.

  12. Is it ok to leave OEM tape on if you remove a grip and then put a new grip on with compressed air? Or should you take the OEM tape off and put 1 piece of single sided tape back on?

  13. It was this sort of demonstrated shoddy work in several nearby retail golf operations that caused me to set up a little golf repair shop in my own garage to do my own clubs. I learned how to do it mostly by watching the Mobile Clubmaker over the past few years. Thanks for the training videos my friend!

  14. I’m sure there are people who use no new tape and just use the old tape and grip solvent!

  15. I would not be happy, if I paid good money for regrouping and someone did that. It’s not just lazy, but unethical if you ask me.

  16. You are 100% right. Iam in Arizona for the winter and the guy at the Swap Meet does hundreds of grips a day and never removes the old tape! Half assed

  17. Yep I watched the guy at a super store do that for my hybrid club….I was buying the club and the grip I like so they didn't charge me for the regrip, but they didn't ask if that was OK.
