SorareData Football Strategy Show: Did the Prem Cause a Crash?

Andrew Laird (Lairdinho) explains to Sean Newsham (psufans2) why he thinks the onboarding of the Premier League may have led to decline in the overall football market, and Sean will then simply reply that he knew that’s what Andrew was going to say. They also debate the idea of whether replacing card rewards with all ETH prizes in Unique division competitions would help the overall market.

  1. I'm not a whale, but I think how PSU explains the trickle down is correct but it's by far a longer tail. The massive whale sells to the slightly smaller whale, who then to the smaller whale and so on and over a long time the Eth does reach down the platform, not all of it, some does recycle and re-line the biggest players pockets, but that's needed to retain the largest players. A small portion of the largest players rewards is a large portion of those below, so the ratio doesn't need to be huge for what trickles down Vs stays up high to be meaningful

  2. If Sean is right and Sorare wants limited to be cheap then we are in for trouble. Then everything else will fall and no one would want to buy (or win) these dirt cheap cards without value. The only way to repair the situation is to rebuild the sentiment and incentivize new users to buy in by giving eth rewards that could stimulate the market in limited. If they dont it will continue to fall. If they only try to incentivize higher scarcities then limited will die out and the largest portion of their userbase will leave and give the product a very bad name. Making it a whale game for the few users remaining who still find any utility in it. How sustainable that is in the long run is another question.

You need to build from the ground up. Build a brand that people trust. That will be the real value going forward that could make Sorare cards collectable items in the future.

To those who wants more for their super rare cards they will have to be patient. If many limited users join in and see there is a way of progression these cards will skyrocket in the future. They could have handled this so much better but if Sean is right…they did this to themselves with very poor short term strategy and it is up to them to rectify it.

When crypto has reached mainstream adoption they could try this strategy again if they risk it. Then at least there will be more random people who mindlessly would buy cards just "for the fun of it". If the process to buy cards are very easy and intuitive to get.

  3. The only diffrence between limited and rares are the color on the cards, the supply and the utility they have. Therfore it should be 10x if Sorare mint them equally. If they dont then the price could be whatever and this is key to how much users trust Sorare. If they flooded the market initially with limited it would be different. Then the oversupply would already have created a very cheap entry. They didnt and have profited heavily on this so far. This logic doesnt change regardless on how you spin it.

  4. Start of this stream should be behind the Star tier Soraredata paywall…. giving this insight for free is crazy 😂

  5. You think Sorare just have endless ETH to give out? haha Minting cards has a much lower cost basis for them, so I think the idea of rewarding ETH only in higher divisions is kinda dumb.

Also, Sean can never be wrong, ever lmao. And then just turns into a child when he gets challenged. How are more people not frustrated by him and his ridiculous ego?

  6. Insight is amazing when deep diving into all things market and macro factors, love that aspect!! I must admit, the "bickering" and constant talking over and louder because "I'm right so listen" is painful to listen to :(. Would have turned it off if not for a recommendation to come and listen. Hoping its not a consistent theme as a new viewer and lover of Sorare!

PS – "Man UTD stacks and failing" hit a painful spot… haha! 😛

  7. I think ETH definitely trickles down a lot better with the old Underdog competition. At least with Underdog it actively boosts demand for much more "lesser" SO5 cards than cap 220, cap 240 and I'll ignore cap 270 because low SO5 scoring cards aren't really important in that competition.

This would mean that the lower tier cards could have spikes in demand when they are considered the "best" option for that competition.

For this to work well, you need to have star tier rewards and other really great rewards to really encourage EVERYONE to enter this competition.
