Recently, TRENDYGOLF had the opportunity to play a round at Kingsbarns Golf Links with the founder of Linksoul, John Ashworth.

John has been making waves in the golf fashion industry since the early 90’s when, as a 26-year-old, he started the landmark brand, Ashworth. At a time when golf clothing was based around polyester fabrics and slim fits, John went looser, with comfortable cotton polos made popular on tour by the likes of Fred Couples, John Cook, and Ernie Els. Realizing that the perception of golf was based around the clothes players were wearing, John’s goal was to make fashionable golf-wear that would transform people’s ideas about the sport.

Fast-forward to 2009. With fashion trends in golf focused on more athletic fits, technical fabrics, and refined, modern finishes, John knew it was time to evolve as well — Linksoul was born.

“The message for this brand is more a philosophy: Using golf as a way to get to know yourself…if you get down to the soulful part of the game, it’s like a walking meditation.”

With brands focusing more and more on the idea of ‘lifestyle’, Linksoul’s attitude sits between the best of golf and surfing. Creating clothes that John and his friends would want to wear on the course or hanging out at the beach is at the core of their mission. With a passion for comfortable fabrics and contemporary designs, the team at Linksoul continues to push the envelope, propelling golf fashion beyond the country club look to a place where polos work in any setting.
