  1. first off and foremost I loved DMO,and will definately continue to follow him.Im excited to see what he will do behind an ELITE OL.But the biggest thing I gained from this video is how ELITE my boy SWIFTY is at bringing the facts.Blown away by how you just bring the stats and truth with NO BS!

  2. I disagree… It looks like if the Bears don't get a Center or RT in free agency, well then Justin is going to running for his life again.

I would have checked in with the Titans or Chargers to see what it would cost for Henry or Ekeler. Adding Henry violent running or Ekeler passing catching abilities with Herbert would strike fear in all of the defenses. This would open more holes in the passing game and help to cover up a below average line. All lowering the number Houdini like plays that Fields has to make.

For example by forgoing the 3million on Foreman, 2.5 million on Homer and/or whatever you spent to add a Derrick Henry for a year or two at a reduced salary 10-12 million. Pair him up with Herbert and Fields would have been really dynamic and lower the pressure on passing game. It will give you more time to develop your young players, fill more holes and win more games all while Fields is on his rookie contract.

As we sit right now they only added two bonafide starters on offense… One RG a position in which our best o-line last year played at and sure-fire number 1 receiver being the only relief. Poles really needs to add an OT like Wynn or C in free agency to close one of those holes otherwise this rebuild is less like the Eagles and more like Bengals. If this is the case then like Bengals… I would draft JSN in the first to find your Higgins to Chase in JSN. Then hope a Jones, Harrison, Wright or Bergeron drops in the second.

  3. Swift.. When you are comparing these two, you have to remember that David was running up the middle and Herbert was running outside.
Big difference when you compare yards before and after contact.
David’s breaking tackles up close where Herbert’s doing it out in space.
    Inside Zone vs Outside Zone.

  4. Good analysis. Poles has made the RB room more productive, more flexible, and cheaper, with no commitment to possible age-related decline. But let's call for his head because he hasn't signed a left tackle and didn't re-sign my favorite player from when the team was in a hopeless downward spiral.

  5. You just said Herbert’s better than Monty at pass blocking now because we got Homer and Foreman.
Maybe you didn’t mean to say that, but think about that for a moment. This is pretty basic. If David’s in there, he’s a 3 down back who can do it all. The play can go anywhere. When you bring Homer in, you’re changing the percentages in your favor of knowing what the play is going to be.
That’s actually one thing I miss about Matt Nagy. He wasn’t afraid to run Tarik Cohen up the middle to keep D’s honest. The Bucs used to mix it up with Alstott and Dunn. As someone who’s grown up playing FB and MLB, I loved that cerebral shit! It makes the D have to think for a split second and that’s all you need in a game of inches.
I saw what David could do with horrible lines and if anyone at all on this team deserves a contract, it’s Monty. He earned it. He deserved to show what he can do with a legit OLine. He will make us pay.
Not many people pay attention to this, but he’s a lefty. All his jukes are opposite of what a D is used to seeing. That’s a huge advantage especially when a lot of the D isn’t tackling by reading his hips. You can’t go anywhere without your hips.
I will miss him. I think would’ve been a standup move for Poles to pay him the $6 million. That’s under what his going rate was. Think about what we pay Cody or Eddie Jackson. That’s not right and what it tells me is nobody deserves a contract. I think people who back Fields better remember this next year. There’s a good chance Fields is gone.
Side note: I’m happy he gave Deiter another shot. People forget about him.

  6. Quick add, let’s not forget that punishing a d early in the run game opens things up later on. In other words Monty gets some bruiser credit for what Herbert was able to do. Will miss Monty’s grit, wish him the best 15 out of 17 next year.

  7. Totally agree! Our running game has been upgraded! The Bears will deploy a running group of Herbert, Foreman and Homer, that will intimidate opposing teams! Love what Poles has done here! I also love that Foreman outperformed our arch nemesis, the Packers, running tandem of Jones and Dillon! The video doesn't lie and neither do stats! Poles did it, yet again! Brilliant! Bear Down!!!

  8. Monty always ran a lot of tough yards for the Bears. Love him for that but it makes me worry about the toll that has taken. I think Foreman will be a 3rd and short plus goal line back. He also could fill in for Herbert if he gets hurt.

Unlike last year Poles is now able to build a bench. That’s huge in the NFL.

Thanks Swifty for making us be smarter Bear fans so much easier. 👍

  9. I wonder how long it will take until Bears scouting-crew steals Swift from us??? 😮

  10. Herbert is a solid change of pace back but he isn't a #1. The Bears will miss Monty

  11. Chicago will always have love for Monty (except when they see him across the field 2x a year)! Dude was a great representative of The Franchise and a ++ in the locker room. I am glad he got paid and I am also glad that Detroit fronted the cash because I think they overpaid.

Moving forward though, it is obvious that Poles is looking for explosive talent to surround Fields whom the offense is being truly built around. The research and analysis that Swift is making just shames all these big market media shows. They are all restating the same talking points and seem to only concern themselves with “popularity” and “notoriety” rather than trying to understand the logic and plan Poles is using. Swift does such a great job!

  12. Monty is a great team mate and person but he was an average RB. Time to move on from Monty and wish him well.

  13. Sorry,Monty was a complete back, kalill makes the offense more predictable. Herbert is a product of Monty's leadership. Herbert isn't even close to being better

  14. He's better because Herbert can cut left or right and go up the gut, Monty only went up the gut and got stuffed by the time he choose to go left or right. 😮😮

  15. And you don't need a high paid RB to win the SB, look at the teams that have won the SB lately , they all won with a low cost RB.

  16. The thing that separates Khalil from David is that Herbert will hit the hole and if there isn't a hole he'll just force his way into the closest gap and push his way for as many yards that he can get. Where Monty doesn't really hit the hole as hard/fast. He looks more like Matt Forte and dances a little behind the LOS. Monty isn't fast enough for the NFL to do that. He gets caught from the side because he's too patient at the end of the day. A guy like Forte could because he was explosive.. but even he would have a lot of carries for only 1-3 yards because he was too patient.

The best running backs in today's NFL just hit the hole. LBs and ends are just too fast and collapse run lanes. You gotta get the ball and go.

  17. We will see this season

Monty was a very very good all-around back who stayed healthy and didn’t fumble

Let’s see how Herbert compares but I think the offense will miss the sure hands and consistency of Montgomery

  18. Defensive coordinators use to game plan for David Montgomery, and for 4 years he had a terrible offensive live two years terrible QBs. Everybody is going to see Khalil Herbert is not that good once he is the main focus to a defensive coordinator.

  19. Monty didn't have a front line in Chicago, and look what he did. In Detroit, he has maybe the best front line in the NFL. Ya'll see how that shakes out twice next year.

  20. This is an absolutely fantastic breakdown. The feeling I get from the comments is that everyone likes Monty. I know how team & player loyalty blinds people.
But I love hearing analysis that can set that aside & simply look at what reality is. One can't make improvements by ignoring there's any need for them. (That's true in real life too. Amazing how people can see this in fiction, eh but not in real life)?
Anyhow, I'm gonna check out more of what you got & hopefully it's not all Bears although I'm rooting for them this season. Having a real run game will open up the passing. Have they improved the o-line yet though? Seriously, great breakdown.
