How to Swing a Golf Club Properly

In this video, I am going to show you how to build a golf swing from the ground up. Much like building a house, if the foundations are poor, the house falls down. In golf, if your setup is poor, you’ve no chance of making a consistent golf swing.

The setup consists of a good grip, the correct width of the stance, the correct position in relation to your feet, correct body alignment, and correct posture. In this video, I show you a simple technique to help you become very efficient at setting up to the golf ball correctly.

The golf swing requires two things to work in harmony with each other. One is the body movement, and the second is the movement of the golf club. I will show you how to move your body efficiently and how to simplify the movement of the arms, wrists, and golf club.

As you can see from this video, doing things the right way will literally change your game. Quick fixes work for a while, but fundamental changes require structure and a clear understanding.

My channel, which I run with my partner Jo Cameron (former BBC Broadcaster and learning specialist), is about massive results from small changes.

To learn the basics of golf is easy, but to master it, we need to make these small changes over a period of time to all add up to give you massive results.

At Proper Golfing, we follow the Golf Medal Winning Formula called Marginal Gains, made famous by the British cycling team. It helped them become world beaters at the London 2012 Olympics. It can work for anyone, given the right approach. It’s based on small changes of 1% that all add up over a period of time to give you massive change.

Fundamental change requires structure and a clear understanding.

  1. Thanks Mr Mellor. It's in one ear and out the other but I'm trying

    P. S my daughter has just started golf this week and her 9 iron goes 90 yards 😂😂😂

  2. The last tip regarding the eyes is something I need to focus on. Follow through is very important I know, but trying to achieve it is for me extremely difficult. All great tips. Not too much info which is a bonus.

  3. Julian. Love how simply you communicate the golf swing. Especially value the checkpoints you provide. For me, it’s so easy to overthink and over adjust. Do you align the ball (not for driver) in the middle or just about where the logo is on your shirt (slightly forward)? Thanks for all you do!

  4. Again right on tee, target, point, etc I have yet to see a video I could not use and re-use and re-use just to reaffirm what I am doing on the course. Best coach world wide.

  5. Hi Julian excellent video: The perfect basics for beginners and everyone of us who comes spring time might need to review; since as Ben Hogan said the correct set up is 90 percent of the golf swing. Although I am not sure I would show the vertical downswing casting move to beginners or anyone for that matter since the golf swing is actually a looping of the club head at the transitional part of the swing

Once in their golf posture i like to demonstrate and help golfers do a one time clockwise baton trail of the handle which immediately bring of the club head back to their ball. The Twirl Waggle

    Why?

Because in any great golf swing there actually is no backswing and there is no downswing.

For the right handed player The best achieved golf swing is one complete continuous clockwise baton twirl of the handle along with the continuous rotating of the body back and forth to the full completion of the swing.

    Would you agree?

Watch every great golfer and you will see their body rotating from side to side with their hands holding on to their club one hundred percent of the time from the very start of their swing to their finish.

Your la dance routine is also the perfect progressive continuous rotating movement of the body back and forth. However stopping la dance rotation at any time and or loosing the handle at any time; the golfer lost their swing Cheers 👍😃⛳️🥂❤️
