Remember when we saw Tyrrell hatton in his adidas hoodie at wentworth? The golfing world went mad! We have seen major golf brands such as Puma, Adidas, Nike, Boss, Castore, Malborn, adapt to new styles of clothing but why are golfers still having trouble with wearing different types of clothing that are not the norm?
We have seen Ryder Cup stars, PGA tour players, Liv tour players, all wear new and exciting golf clothing!

DRESS CODE SHOULD BE HAVE ONE…YES OR NO – let’s see what comes out on top 👇🏼
The dress code thing is the dumbest thing in golf ever. You want to be called a sport but want your athletes to walk around like office clerks. Yes to hoodies, yes to joggers and yes to untucked polos 👕. Golf equals life
In my opinion this is one of the main reasons people don’t get into golf!!
100% this Alex. Myself and my 2 sons have gotten into golf over the last year. We have started at a 9 hole academy course which has a very relaxed dress code. I'm an older gent so I'm more than happy to go down the traditional route. My youngest son in particular doesn't get the dress code and ultimately this will stop him from going to 'better' golf courses. We are talking discreetly labelled branded joggers here, nothing outrageous.
Shoes I get. I would wear appropriate footwear for any sport. No footy shirts, absolutely. But some of the dress code is way back in the mid 20th century. There are a few pay to play, more relaxed courses in our area and we will pay them. Join a golf club, pay for a membership, hmmmm we will have to see about that.
If Tiger or Rory turn up in the same puma trousers as josh I bet they would not to be ask to prove
There are wearing golf trousers.🤔
I mean we can relax the dress code a little bit like Liv did but I still don’t want people running around in baggy denim and and wife beaters.
I think he should be talking to the LPGA tour. was it two years ago they tightened their dress codes? I am in favor of dress codes. I don't want to see some dude in a wife beater shirt with disgusting wording. Or trousers barely covering their arses. I have had people in the foursome ahead of me or behind me playing music on the course. On more than one occasion.
Where will you draw the line? anything goes right?
Golf apparel is expensive and uncomfortable for what it is, polyester, and hoodies are just impractical. Parents spend a fortune on their kid's football kit and street wear so they wear it on the course. The dress code or lack of it is just part of the dying out of etiquette. The smart/casual uniform shouldn't be seen as a divider but a unifier. People then wouldn't feel so judged.
I untuck after the first tee and I purchased some work out pants that looks like the real pants and I will be golfing in my area soon spring is on the way in other words I will wear what I want hoodies included
What's wrong with wearing Levi Strauss jeans. Only two clubs have refused us. Still look clean and well dressed. Some of the shorts I've seen look gastly. Neat looking is what is required.
How about this,
if you’re under 40 you can wear what you want, over 40 nae hoodies cuffed troosers etc cause yer ower the hill and look like a W⚓️ in the “fashionable” gear🤣
Personally, I don't give a rats tail what one wears when playing golf. That said, I do believe that the clothing should be neat and presentable. No pants with holes in them, shirts (either with or without collars and/or hoodies) should also be presentable. No political slogans, no offensive slogans either. I enjoy watching the LIV golfers playing in shorts. Where I live, it gets extremely hot and humid during the summer, which is why if I can't play around in a pair of shorts with one of my colorful Hawaiian shirts, then I will not play that course. There's nothing worse than seeing someone wearing long pants on a really hot and humid day that looks like they have had an accident in their long pants due to sweating. So, yes, the dress codes should and need to be relaxed. Long live comfort and practically when playing.
Its not about what you wear its the person.A dickhead in a suit is still a dickhead
आर्थिक मंदी के बावजूद, मैं बहुत खुश हूं 😊मैं हर 12 दिनों में अपने $10,000 के निवेश से $33,000 का रिटर्न कमा रहा हूं
It should be relaxed. If I play at a course that hassles me for my comfortable attire, I never go back there again.
Golf caps backwards – no, denim – no, sleeveless tops for men – no, football/rugby etc tops – no, cargo shorts – no, tracksuits – no, hoodies – no. A private members club has the right to impose what rules it likes. If you don’t want to follow them, go elsewhere. I’ve seen clubs where standards were dropped and eventually resembled the local municipal both in the turnout of players and the course when the green staff gave up.
Dress code was ‘lost’ when the Nikey brigade joined.
Golf needs to relax on on aspects.
Shoes over the years have got so relaxed they look better than most peoples trainers but don’t match clothing with certain rules.
Golf as whole needs to look at its self, you can be fortunate enough to have a few quid spare but can’t join a club unless an “member backs your application” what if you just moved to the area?
I play mostly muni courses in my area, they are city and county owned. They do not enforce a dress code with some exceptions. I live in southern Arizona, desert climate summers are 100 to 110 Fahrenheit. You have to be able to stay cool, wearing collared shirts is unbearable. Golf trousers, golf attire is outdated and expensive. Will rarely play a country club mainly due to price and the stuffy atmosphere. Time to relax the dress code and still keep it respectable.
I definitely agree as long as people aren’t in tattered cloths or shell suits smart casual should be good enough.
Dress Code is one of the things that puts people off trying golf. It brings with it a stuffy, unwelcoming atmosphere in clubs that enforce it.
Most people don't want to look ridiculous in public, so as long as they aren't cutting up the greens wearing football boots, it needs to be relaxed.
When I returned to golf during Covid after a decade away, my club was happy for me to play in a plain black pair of Vans. As long as you're not wearing a string vest, you should be able to use your own common sense as to how you look on the course.
I've now got some nice Under Armour golf shoes, and joined the golf club because of their welcoming attitude to casual and returning golfers.
Most of the courses that I play at are $25-$35 for 18 holes w/ cart. You can wear what you want, now if you step up to the $50-$75 courses they usually require a polo and trousers/shorts which is fine with me. I like to look the part when I go hack up a beautiful course.
Very interesting question. If the club is a private members club then it is down to the members and I would think the majority would vote for a formal dress code. If the club is set up for pay and play then well anything could go to get the green fee. The issue is what is acceptable and who decides? Can you define semi relaxed. Just because it has a label saying made by xxxx golf company makes it acceptable? Will club membership improve with this or will full paying membership decrease at clubs adopting these "relaxed" dress code? Membership a subject you discussed previously, do clubs need full paying members to survive. As for Gallacher and you supporting him. What do you mean by more Inclusive? What do you mean by more diverse? and finally what and how more accessible? Please give examples as just saying these phrases with no explanation has become all to common these days. Have you ever heard of impact assessments?
Golf: drink beers and piss on trees but you better have a fuk’n collar.
Should there be dress code yes but it should be relaxed from it is yes,
you wouldn't play football in golf gear, so why do people turn up at golf courses in football kit? keep the standards
I've never really got the argument that wearing a polo & chino type shorts is a barrier to people playing golf. All other sports, and people will always come to golf from other sports, have a kit. You would look a plum playing football in jeans for instance. The hoodie thing is provocation for the sake of it. Hatton was playing in the cold & it was raining. 2 reasons to deploy a hood. He never did. In fact on several occasions he had to fiddle with the hood because it was annoying him whilst putting. So it isn't fit for purpose. Knee high socks and old blokes wearing washed out blazers thinking they are smart when they look like a charity shop mannequin is the other end of the scale. In short its boring. This is churning out something for the sake of it
All sports have required clothing. So dumb. If you can’t be bothered to wear basic golf attire that’s on you.
Anything but denim, tank tops, and athletic shorts. If you like to wear that type of clothing feel free to go to Top Golf.
Agree there should be a dress code and looking at the styles out there at the moment most of the modern golf attire is pretty smart, if it’s smart why not, comfort is definitely important👍🏻but jeans I don’t agree with unless you have waterproof trousers over them lol Joggers why not though and if I’m not mistaken did Justin Thomas and Speath not have a hoodie on during a tournament a while back ?
I refuse to tuck my shirt in for anyone for any reason.
Those pants are nice I agree with you .Collared shirts and nice pants are great .
Dress code please
IF you want to play looking like a bum, that speaks volumes about you
No, it doesn't. Golf fashion has gotten out of control.
We have people out there in sweat pants lile they're going to Wal-Mart. A pair of slacks and a polo aren't difficult to obtain.
As long as the private parts are covered….wear what you want…just PLAY GOLF!!!
Trouser wise I play in my Chinos be it black, grey, Navy, or sand coloured.
It's up to the individual course. They set their own rules. What I don't want to see: go to the course and it looks like I'm at a walmart or an airport with people walking around wearing pajama's and flip flops. Don't know what it's like in other countries, but in America, so many have no class, no respect for themselves to go out in public looking like that.
That is why LIV GOLF "gets it" and PGA TOUR DOESN'T. LIV allows shorts and they play music which both fans and players enjoy!!!!!
💯 agree on relaxing the code. Yes to all the newest styles and feel you should have enough sense not to wear shabby cloths.
I wear golf attire when I play but the main reason is it is comfortable to play in. There are courses in my area that have zero dress code and I’m most certain that the golf gods are fine with it. 🤣 Dress codes to me hinder more than help the game. Sure you shouldn’t show up in cutoff shorts and a tank top shirt, but it doesn’t hurt a thing to have a pair of shorts and a tee shirt or even a “hoodie”. And even shoes other than golf shoes as long as they don’t damage the greens.
