Justin Leonard | First and Last | The Open Championship

It was in 1997 when Justin Leonard won his only Open Championship – winning The 126th Open at Royal Troon. He secured the Claret Jug with an outstanding final round of 65, overcoming Darren Clarke and Jesper Parnevik, despite being 5 strokes behind at the start of the day.

Four years earlier, the former U.S. Amateur Champion made his Open debut in 1993. Unfortunately for Leonard, he missed the cut at Royal St George’s.

The Open Championship welcomed the American on 22 occasions, with his final tournament coming at The 145th Open, held at Royal Troon.

  1. Justin Leonard won the Open in 1997. Is he the best player to lift the Claret Jug just once?

  2. His final round when he won was an unbelievable putting display…. Really should have won it again in 99, and the pga in 04. For a short knocker like myself, good that he competed so well. Brilliant player
