“SLOW YOUR HIPS!” This Never Before Seen Downswing Move Gets You Huge Distance

You will hit farther and straighter when you do this with your hips in the golf swing. This simple downswing move will fix a lot of your golf swing problems and make you a better golfer. Most golf tips say to “turn your hips” at the start of the downswing. Did you know turning your hips can cause you to swing over the top and slice the ball? When you learn to slow down your hips, you can create more speed and hit the ball farther with less effort.

I am Tom Saguto, PGA Member and founder of SagutoGolf. Thank you for visiting my instructional page where you can find how to get on the fast track to improving your golfing abilities. Whether you are a seasoned golfing veteran looking for a quick swing tune-up after an on-course emergency, or a beginner just looking to get the most out of your golfing experience, I am here to help you achieve your golfing goals.

My mission as your swing doctor is simple, to help you maximize your enjoyment in game of golf. Because, let’s face it, golf is a hard game.

My philosophy is wholly based on the student having a fun, meaningful experience in a frustrating and complicated game where potential lifelong golfers either quit because it is too difficult or that they experience some form of swing-related pain or discomfort. I mitigate these problems by focusing entirely on the student’s needs and goals while teaching a golf swing method that ultimately takes stress off of the common pain areas of the swing.

  1. I’ve had this problem, as many others I see on the range. This is very difficult to overcome. The “feel” that’s helped me, as we know “feel” isn’t totally “real”, is to try and keep my back to the target as long as possible, and swing inside out. I realize it’s all a sequence, but some of us have to exaggerate, over do it, to get to where we need to be, as you explain in your videos. I define the move you’re explaining as “spinning out”. To me it’s like taking off in a car. You don’t slam on the gas, or you’ll spin, and lose control. It’s a gradual acceleration to get more traction, as we all need in the golf swing…. To make any changes in the golf swing, we have to stop swinging so hard as well, or we’ll end up in the ditch, that would be the woods, in golf terms…..

  2. Just the exact opposite to what I intended to change in my downswing 😅. I am going to give your drill a go asap. 👏✌️👍

  3. My first round this year will be early in April, Myrtle Beach here I come.tons of confidence, thank you,Tom

  4. Yes! I was told over and over again to rotate and “fire” the hips like Rory but rotating left too early struggling with path. Loving the crispy contact Tom! 🙏🏻

  5. Tom! How can we shift weight and move hips forward without affecting the low point?

I tend to hit it fat when starting the downswing with shifting instead of turning.

  6. Hi my name is JG, and I also fire my hips in the downswing, until now. Thanks for the laugh and the great advice.

  7. I've noticed if you slide the hips first when your hips reach the end they will turn on their own.

  8. 👍🏻 Awesome!
For years I’ve been trying to “Fire the hips” (as many suggest) and trying to keep my upper body back
    … near impossible! 🙄

As a result, I can hardly ever finish IN BALANCE 😡
I can only dream of posing in a balanced finish like I see golfers do in TV.

I am definitely going to try this in the X-Golf simulator this morning 👍🏻

And you’re right, probably even more important with the Driver. My miss with the Driver is not a slice, it’s a push out to the right (a block), … probably because my hips are too far ahead of my arms, right?

    Thanks, Tom
    … you’re the best 👊🏻

  9. This is exactly what I’ve been fighting for 5 months.I was literally pulling the shot 30 degrees offline. Completely killed my game. I could not figure out how to stop doing it. Damn near quit the game. This episode and the other one with right elbow tuck fixed it. Immediately I started hitting the ball clean again. Thx
