That whole Big Henry bit is one of my favorite bits of Gravity Falls
Big Henry appears to be a nod to the song 'Big Bad John' and/or the Big John Iron Mine in Vulcan, Michigan, an attraction open since 1958.
Big Henry might of been loosely inspired John Henry. But yeah this epsiode got dark but you aint seen nothing yet 🙂

The end credits ciphers in S2 are a lot more complicated than the ones in S1. You might want to take the answer to some that you've already seen (like this episode) and see if you can make sense of the relationship between the code and the answer.

The S2 end credits ciphers main schtick is a scavenger hunt in the episode. The ciphers use a Vigenère cipher which requires a key to encode and decode. The letters in the key determine the offset distance for each corresponding letter in the message. You might want to find a non-GF-related guide to the Vigenère cipher to get comfortable with how it works, then you can just search the episodes for where the keys are hidden.

I recently heard Patton Oswalt on the Kingcast (Stephen King story discussion podcast), and not only was he witty & charming, but also very clever, informed and deep of thought. I was really impressed, considering that it was basically an unscripted interview.
I love your guys' reaction, especially how moved you were by Stan (I love him so much) and Big Henry (so so dark omg).
It's only re-watching it with you two that I realized that there's a hole in Mabel's character. It was established that Dipper beats Mabel at everything. The only thing she had over Dipper was her height. But now, out of nowhere, she's the best mini-golf player around. She's even better than Dipper.
