Trade Package For Sharks’ Timo Meier to NJ Devils

The biggest name on the trade board – San Jose’s Timo Meier was traded to the New Jersey Devils for a package of picks and prospect Shakir Mukhamadullin. As with most deals, we expect to see a player, a prospect, and a draft pick. Let’s take a look at the packages that some of the frontrunners would be able to put together.

  1. I see the Leafs going after a depth forward like Barbashev or Bertuzzi, and I hope they can find a defenseman or they're looking at another first-round nightmare against the Lightning.

  2. Meier will be a Devil 😈 it’s his destiny plus, Per Pierre Lebrun just a few hours ago he said Fitzyyy is really making moves on Timo and that we want him the most we are really pushing getting Timo as the Devils & Sharks have been nonstop talking the past 48 hoursss 👀

  3. we need Holtz, Nemec and a 2nd Rd pick. Or for Toronto Robertson, Timmins, 1st rd pick……I can't see teams giving up full time current roster players like Mercer or Bunting. Even Timmins would be a stretch.

  4. The Devs proposals are better than what was given up for Tarasenko or Horvat. Much more in the case of Tarasenko. Rangers gave up nothing other than than the 1st, and it should be low/bad pick. Nemec is the 4th rated prospect in the entire league, so you need to wake up from that dream

  5. Sharks won't be getting Hughes or Nemec probably something around Holtz a 1st and maybe a few other things or just one more thing.

  6. I think the big difference between a Meier deal and Vlad or Horvat's is that Timo is an RFA at the end of the season. The other thing is, San Jose should be looking at a long-term rebuild. My guess is, for example, the Coyotes haven't just moved Chychrun yet because they have a clear 3-5 year plan. They chose Logan Cooley specifically to keep him playing College hockey. They want to unveil their new Arena with a group of developed young players and come out swinging. San Jose has, for the next 2-4 years after this one, overaged players they are going to be paying.

Burns, Couture, Vlasic, and Karlsson are all going to be on San Jose's books regardless of where they end up. Be it buyouts or retained salary, none of these guys are not getting paid by SJ in some way. So San Jose should look to be bad for the next 2-3 years. Which means I don't want an Alexander Holtz who is ready to break out. Or a Dawson Mercer. Or a Seth Jarvis. I want lots of picks. I want some 18-19 year old prospects. I want conditions. So, why hasn't Meier moved yet? Because that's probably what's being worked out. If NJ signs him as part of the trade, or if they move him. There could be a trigger that says, "If you move him you also owe us another 4th round pick" or something to that extent. It's gonna be the same with EK65, Edmonton obviously wants SJ to retain as much salary as they can, but eating as much as 4.5 million for the next 4 years I would expect comes with 3-4 years of draft picks as compensation.

Either way, I expect a lot of conditions on Timo's deal, which is why it isn't done yet.

  7. SJ is not getting a 2020 1st round player currently in the NHL on ELC. Sorry. You can ask for Jarvis, Perfetti, Quinn, Mercer etc but no one is going to give that kind of player off their current rosters. It's going to be '23/'24 picks, high end prospects NOT in the league yet, and roster players not of that mold. We'll see in 9 days, certainly seems any deal won't be coming before March either way
