Welcome back to Golf This Week, episode 2, the series that talks about all the exciting things that happened on the golf course last week.
We talk about the Adidas – Dustin Johnson equipment split, where the two parties have decided to split ways due to chasing different directions. With DJ being the captain of his 4Aces team, and LIV Golf’s new rules on each team having to finance their own travel and accommodation, each captain has to make sure that money comes in from sponsorships. This will probably lead to some interesting collaborations in the future.
LIV Golf got a big positive news source from the R&A and the PGA, as they are now allowed to play in The Open and the PGA Championship, meaning that all 4 of 2023’s major championships will be playable for eligible LIV members.
The Honda Classic was played this week, with Chris Kirk winning in a playoff. He didn’t have that much competition though, as the majority of players took a week off to prepare for bigger tournaments. Top players like Rahm and McIlroy have decided to play a Pro-Am on the next day instead.
LIV Mayakoba was a bit of a snoozefest golf-wise, hopefully, their next outing will end up being a little bit better.
Marcel Siem won his first tournament in 8 years by winning this week on the DP World Tour in India.
Dylan Mostert won his second event on the Sunshine Tour this week at the Nelson Mandela Bay Championship at Humewood Golf Club.
On the LPGA Tour’s regular season opener, Lilia Vu edged out local favorites Natthakritta Vongtaveelap and Atthaya Thitikun by shooting a final round 64 for her first LPGA Tour win.
