Brett Hull scored 844 NHL Goals: Regular Season (741) Playoffs (103).
He was the son of Bobby Hull, the “Golden Jet,” one of hockey’s most iconic legends. But, as a young player, the overweight and unmotivated Brett Hull was not considered to be a pro prospect, let alone someone who could approach his father’s prodigious legacy.
In fact, Brett was passed over in junior hockey drafts and was ignored in two NHL drafts before finally being chosen in the late rounds in 1984.
But by decade’s end he was the NHL’s premier goal scorer and would ultimately record an incredible 86 goals in a single season.By the time he finished his hall of fame career, he had scored 844 NHL goals, won two Stanley Cups and had far surpassed BOBBY hull’s NHL scoring records.
Let’s take a close look at the career of Brett Hull. How did the self-described lazy, pudgy and unwanted kid join his father in the pantheon of the greatest players in NHL history.

Love this man! I didn’t know Hull was such a low level prospect..learn something new everyday! Lol I always learn something new when I watch your vids brother👍 idk if you have already done something on this guy..But I think Link Gates would make for an interesting video. Just a suggestion😊 keep doing what ur doing my friend👌
Obviouslt Brett is the better of the two by far. Remember if Brett played in his fathers era he would have been a super, super star.
His mom was a great skater.
It's amazing how far politics can take you in hockey.
Enjoyed your video, citing accomplishments of both father &son Hull. Would not pick one, over the other.
He has 741 goals… but still a legend
Hulls goal should not have counted.
We used to call him Tap-Tap, 'cause he just stood there asking for the puck all the time…
His dad was exactly the same way w/fans. Met Bobby at a card show & he would have talked all day with ya!
IMHO and with due respect to other great players, Bobby Hull was the second greatest player I ever saw – second only to Bobby Orr. Brett Hull was also a great player and of course a deserved Hall of Famer.
Cant believe they would boo him and chant trader like really! wasn't his choice.
His skate was in the crease.
Great story. Thank you!
That 1996 World Cup of Hockey was some of the most intense hockey I've ever seen. I saw team USA at MSG (can't remember who they played) and the atmosphere was incredible.
Saw the Golden Sweat at Maple Leaf Gardens from good seats.
He was amazing. Such zip among hockey stars.
Bobby wasn't an all star dad or husband. When the Golden Jet was making a name for himself my gr 19 teacher from Belleville said all the girls in his class in Belleville had a crush on Bob. Then she mentioned the wife beating. . gulp
Us young hockey fans had no idea.
What a jerk. And not just one wife. Wtf. Tough guy!. Bully.
Golden Sweat…Brett
NO GOAL!!!!
Hulls goal was good that was stupid rule and why it didn't last long
He was my favorite player when I was growing up. He was "the golden boy", not the other said name. There is so much more to this man's career. His book says so much. Gr8 job, wish it was longer 👍👍👍👍
Yeah l remember Terry Crisp was the Flames coach and he despised Brett and pushed mgt hard to get rid of him. Something along the lines of he's a total waste of time on this team soft and lazy. LOL, when Brett took off with his scoring at STL Crisp got canned and never coached again iirc.
I met Oates when I was a kid. Actually, met the entire '87-'88 Red Wings team outside the Spectrum as I was a Flyers fan, but split my head open and they helped me get patched up. Became a Wings fan. Was sad we couldn't afford him. When Hull was so productive in his late 30s for us, I was shocked. Really wanted no part of him.
I saw him play in the AHL, he scored 50 goals in the AHL that year. Great video!
The league has in the past and still does today favor certain teams and players to take the cup. It's all about marketing and money. There is a lot of bs in the nhl.
I’m a Sabres fan but Buffalo didn’t lose the cup because of that goal, Buffalo lost the cup because they had a 22 million dollar payroll and Dallas had a payroll of 2.5 times higher and 5 hall of fame players on the team. I’m including Pat Verbeek in that because he had 522 goals and should be in the hall of fame. Buffalo only had Hasek that was it. So happy now the NHL sees every team with a chance to win with the salary cap, those seasons in late 90s when Buffalo had 22-24 mill and teams like Rangers and Detroit had 70 mill payrolls was nonsense!
Growing up my friend played with him and he said that nothing would become of him alter he was drafted.
Came down from Edmonton to a Midget B tourney in Calgary 79/80?, the talk of the tourney was Bobby Hull’s kid Brett was playing
Brett pulled the ultimate "fuck you, Dad" lmfao
This is my Hero Sniper…HE Shoots like Vulkan gun: https://youtu.be/K3Dp6Fass2Y
Y
At least Brett didn't turn out to be a shitty human being like his father. Bobby was a great player but a horrendous person.
Nobody in NHL history “owned” a single team the way Brett Hull owned the Leafs. He averaged 2 points a game vs Toronto.
NO GOAL!!!!!
PACK YER STUFF KEENAN, YER FIRED. HAHAHAAAA
He was a trader to Canada!! Rot in hell!!!
Brett Hull the school bully
"I never really liked hockey, I was just good at it." – Brett Hull
Sometimes it takes time for work ethic to catch up to pure talent, sometimes never.
He absolutely owed loyality to Team USA, it sucks but back then Canada could have iced an "A" and "B" and may have finished First and Second. Good on ya Brett but still consider you Canadian ….. lol.
There's no doubt his foot was in the crease. If I remember correctly, that rule plagued the league BECAUSE it was applied differently. I think we all know it was overlooked in the moment because it was the 3rd OT and their wasn't direct goalie contact which is a huge problem with the rule to begin with.
I remember watching him with Calgary and he was traded to St.Louis. My father specifically said to watch him as he was going to be great.
Great video!
NHL Goaltending was absolutely atrocious until the late 90’s….
hockey fans are the weirdest
Hull was not just a superstar HOFer. For a few years, he was an unstoppable force of nature.
Great great work on this video.
Traitor
Of course it should count such sour grapes
What an awesome Hull breakdown video.
