✅ Let’s get to the news that shook the world of golf!

According to recent reports from Sports Illustrated and The Telegraph, Thomas Pieters, a highly regarded Belgian professional golfer, is set to sign with LIV Golf. A source close to LIV Golf that Pieters has indeed signed with the league.

At the age of 31, Pieters has already achieved great success on the DP World Tour, having won it six times. He also won the NCAA Individual Championship at the University of Illinois in 2012. Pieters is mostly remembered for his impressive performance in the 2016 Ryder Cup, where he scored the most points for the Europeans even though they lost the competition. Pieters is currently ranked the No. 34 golfer in the world on the Official World Golf Rankings.

Pieters’ name has been linked with a potential move to the Saudi Arabia-backed golf circuit since last autumn. It is worth mentioning that just last month, Pieters participated in the Hero Cup, an exhibition competition that serves as a prelude to the Ryder Cup, indicating his intention to continue playing on the DP World Tour. Additionally, earlier this week, Pieters expressed his disappointment on social media at not receiving an invite to the Genesis Invitational. He stated that he was unable to enter despite being ranked 34th in the world. It is also known that Pieters withdrew from his participation on the PGA Tour a few seasons ago.

LIV Golf recently announced the first eight members of its teams for the upcoming second season. While the remaining four were scheduled to be released on Friday, the league’s Twitter account confirmed that the final rosters and members would be released on Monday.

It is currently unknown which club LIV Pieters will join. Pieters would become just the third known golfer to join LIV Golf before the start of its second season. Mito Pereira and Sebastian Munoz have already declared their intention to leave the PGA Tour and sign with the emerging league, and according to ESPN, Danny Lee and Brendan Steele are also expected to join LIV Golf next week.

The second season of LIV Golf is scheduled to begin next week in Mayakoba. The individual and team competitions that were featured in the inaugural season will return in 2023. LIV Golf recently unveiled a multi-year media deal with The CW, marking the league’s first mainstream television broadcast partner in the United States.
