  1. I think a healthy Bert has been good for larkins game and I would like both to stay. I'm with steve and think 8 mil is a fair offer but if larkin can finish out the season this way or if we make playoffs I think y will give him something closer to what he wants. On a roll rn lgrw

  2. Yes, it absolutely validates his $$ demand. Bertuzzi too, no coincidence that top line is producing no matter who is on that right wing.

  3. I think Larkin heard some of the fans saying he can't carry the team and he's not worth 9 million a year.

  4. Get him signed, I think 8 years/71 mil is what it's going to end up being. Years it's more than Stevie would like, but come on he's carrying the whole team on his back. Not just with the points, but also with his leadership, he has become a true 2 way center, get him signed.

  5. It’s been funny watching him recently. Dudes trying harder than he ever has.

    Kind of annoying honestly.

  6. Learn from Bergeron, a PROVEN WINNER, a TRUE FIRST LINE CENTER, who isn't too proud to take a home-town discount to help GET and KEEP the right guys around him, to WIN cups. Probably going to get another this year. Ask yourself if cups r worth giving up a few mil Larks. Your already set FOR LIFE either way. 4 at 8 , then renegotiate sooner when you've DONE the dang thing! If you can. I'd hate to see him go away for sure. But is he worth 9? Look around the NHL. I HOPE I'm proven wrong.

  7. Splitt the difference and get it done. Another thought. Can you lock part of the salary into playoff bonus’s. For example, 8.5 million in salary. Another .5 million in playoff bonuses. Divided into one quarter for each round reached in each given year. Now that would be a serious incentive to make and stay in the playoffs.

  8. IF he wants >$9M so he'd damn well better catch fire 5-6 times per year. If he stays in Detroit he could be the John Elway of Michigan after retirement with broadcasting, coaching and business opportunities up the wazoo. Detroit loves its heroes and Gordie, Lindsey, Delvecchio and Redmond never had to buy a dinner or drink the rest of their lives. If he analyzes LONG TERM upside, he'll make that million up in spades by being the local boy who led them back to playoff glory after the Blasshill era. Ask Ozzie and The Mick.

  9. Horvat gets 8.5m, Barzal got over 9. I think 8.75 or maybe a bit closer to 9m is valid for Larkin. Pay our captain Stevie.

  10. Make playoffs and he’ll get close to 9. I like Larks but he’s only been a 7mil player so far. If he was on another team with stars that produce more he’d only be at 4-5Mil it’s just that Detroit doesn’t have any high elite 50 goal scorer

  11. He most likely realizes hitting the open UFA market, it will be a max payload of cash for him. Many teams will compete for him.
Historically his contract(s) with Detroit were seen as very affordable and friendly for the Red Wings salary cap.

  12. As a wings fans I would like Larking to take the hometown discount. Obviously he wants to be in detroit and if he wants to win then a lesser salary would help build a better team in the future

  13. If I'm Larkin I'm holding out for what I want. If Detroit won't give it to him, another team in free agency definitely will.

  14. This hot streak was one of the hypothetical reasons I think Yzerman has waited to resign him and why there was no rush. I think that's why you won't see anything finalized until late into the regular season. I wouldn't be surprised if Yzerman said to Larkin in some way that if you want that extra money then go prove it to me on the ice and earn it. If the Red Wings and their winning ways continue and end up vying for a wild card spot then I think Larkin wins the bargaining talks for his future contract.

  15. Wings MUST (and will) sign Larkin because, frankly, they have no choice. Without Larkin, they cannot continue to make progress but they have too much going for them to tank bad enough to add high draft picks any time soon. There are too many teams that are intentionally tanking. Wings will not be able to improve from getting top 5 draft picks. Without Larkin. they would be stuck in mediocracy.

  16. Larkin is the main reason they've put up 20 goals over the past four games.

Five wins in a row and 8-3 over the last 11 have catapulted the Wings right back into Playoff contention, and Larkin has led the charge.

  17. I don't see how the recent hot streak makes Larkin more valuable for an eight-year contract: we have a much bigger sample size of games to evaluate him on, and this recent pace is simply not sustainable on a multi-year basis. Ironically, it could affect his trade value, as a Stanley Cup contender would get full value for their trade if he can keep up his present pace for just a few more months, which might be possible.

The video makes a good point for why Larkin wants a few extra hundreds of thousands of dollars, but that isn't the main holdup for the team, which can easily afford another two million dollars when it is spread out over many years. The teams issues are the salary cap, and the higher expectations other players would have. If Yzerman adds a few more hundreds of thousands of dollars to Larkin's contract, and then that higher baseline starts affecting other contracts, the overall result could easily put the team into serious salary cap problems.

At the end of the day, this will ultimately come down to Larkin, and how much does he want to remain a Red Wing. It is a rare thing to not only make it to the NHL, but to be drafted by (and eventually named captain of) the very team one rooted for as a child. Normally I would describe such an opportunity as priceless, but it seems that Larkin is going to have to put a price on it. We know from Yzerman's Tampa Bay record that he isn't overly sentimental about team captains (just ask Martin St. Louis). He will do as he has always done, whatever is best for the overall team.

  18. If he gets the 9m this point streak will dry up, guaranteed. He should be happy with an 8×8. Why is nobody talking about all those apples Seider is putting up?
