No Club here in Australia could survive without highish up front fee.Very expensive to operate.We pay $800 membership fee and $24 comp. fee and still rely on grants.
Snootiness? Educating older members? really? I was educated on golf ettiquete which is sadly lacking . You are offending people by singelling out older golfers .It may be a fashion thing? but i get offended by people wearing hats indoors. Its bad manners , But then i'm old and who gives a rats ass about what i think!. I recently joined a club after not being a member anywhere since covid struck . I think members are more respectful towards the course etc than non members and look after it better . This i found to be marginal with cheaper places but the more expensive it gets it seems the more courses are looked after by the players .It might be about wealth but thats the way of the world .
I pay $119 a year to receive a 15% discount on green fees at 4 different courses in my home town. We also get a 15% discount in the club house for food golf supplies and clothing.
Golf clubs have more members than spots in the comp so people still pay and can’t get on also comp fees are just a money grab also they book corporate days for companies so that’s another day you can’t play they get your money up front and then don’t give a crap about you
News flash…….golf has always been expensive. If you want class, you pay. If you want to play the scrub then it becomes more affordable to the masses.
.it seems to me that 18 holes takes to much time for younger players and it would be beneficial for clubs to accommodate people who only want to play nine holes .
