There are some different trains of thought out there on how the arms lower in the downswing. In this video, I’d like to share my understanding of this movement and why I have the preferences I do. There are undoubtedly endless ways to move, match up, and swing the golf club, but if you have followed my channel you will know I like to move in a baseball hitting-like pattern, with rotation and flexion, a pattern I tend to see in the most powerful players. In this video I also incorporate some findings of Dr. Mark Bull @bull3dgolfacademy56 which I believe further demonstrate my preference that the arms do not fire down (and lower independently) from the top, but rather work slightly into us as we begin to unwind and flex leaving the club up and back. This produces a later firing of the arms and the club into the ball. As in most anything in life, there are various beliefs, interpretations of data, and how people convey their findings. I will continue to share my preferences with you here, preferences that I believe the most dynamic ball strikers embody in their golf swings. I hope you enjoy this video and thanks for following along!

This looks like it was filmed at the Lines residence.
Milo: "I'm going out to film a video."
Mrs Lines: "NOW !!!! Can't it wait until tomorrow."
Milo: "NO it can't wait until tomorrow Tomorrow will be too late
and people will want to see it on Friday morning and then try it at the range before Saturday."
Mrs Lines: "OH REALLY?"
MILO: "YEAH REALLY. Everyone keep the noise down."
Mrs Lines: "is it important?"
Milo: "its about How to Dynamically Get the Arms Down"
Mrs Lines: "Oh for God's sake Milo, honestly, it's like living with a child sometimes.
You've had all day to do this and you decide to do it now….
[the following rant into the distance writes itself]
AMG just schooled you! The tools are only good if you know how to use them! Obviously you need an expert in GEARS to set you straight before you spout incorrect info…it's a bad look and very confusing for golfers that try to implement what you're saying is happening but isn't actually happening…leads to a lot of rabbit holes that can be avoided! Please don't do anymore vids referencing Gears data till you know how to interpret what the system is actually capturing, ….do no harm…lol!
The neighbors must love that spotlight. We appreciate their sacrifice 😅
Come on guys be nice. AMG said that all instructors' intent is to make players better not worse. But I do think calling out AMG was not a good idea
Hi Milo, does that make me a nerd as well . . . great content.
It seems like golf instruction is a bit like flat earth, it's pointless trying to argue with those that think the earth is flat 🤣 This motion was previously pointed out by one of the greatest ballstrikers in this video: https://youtu.be/wQqqF1UHi14, who was also a fan of the baseball swing. Milo's swing 'method' has more flexion than some swingers, and Hogan, but that extra flexion seems beneficial for club face stability and simplicity.
First side bend video i watched was milo with be better golf. The video intrigued me. Not many youtubers talk about the concept of side bend in there online lessons, they beat around the bush. If you can understand the concept of side bend/ maintaining spine tilt/ bend and are able to put it in practise so many things will automatically fall into place. Milo thanks for taking time to explain. Amg guys are explaining the concept aswell, All trying to help us improve. Pleased with all the info i can get. Keep up great work
I haven't been hooked to a computer to see what's really happening, but over the past few days, trying to rotate into trail side bend as described in Milo's last two videos has had a host of amazing domino effects bringing my bad drives of 190 to 230 up to 250, and my good drives from 250 to high 260s, 70s, and yesterday 293 on a par 5, 40 yards longer than my previous best there. I'm 66 years old. I'm also now able to work a lefty fade around doglegs left, and I'm thrilled to find it's often flying further than my draw. In short, I've always been a flipper, had trouble opening my body with good balance and shoulder tilt, which also made it harder to "hit late" and reach impact with my hands at my front thigh. Now it feels natural. I've had a couple crazy pushes, but 70% of my drives have been dead center. I think this is a case where this specific swing thought turns my ugly "before video" into a smooth, clean "after" that I never thought I'd achieve – along with hitting a 7 iron into a par 5.(3 putt for par though 🙁) Down side is pending divorce after intimate moment where I called my wife "Milo."
At the end of the day no 3D system is perfect yet because last time I checked 3D markers are not attached to our bones and thus can move with the clothes and are not an exact representation of the skeletal system. And don't be started on that pseudo 3D AI stuff either. Lots of extrapolations/approximations.. so whatever feel works is what matters..Getting too lost in the weeds hasn't helped me so far so I listen to both sides of the story and make my own decisions. Let's keep it civil boys so we can all learn from each other. But I do applaud Milo for being a gentleman about this.
Gears can measure all the data it wants but it can’t measure forces acting every which way during the swing. Data doesn’t hit a golf ball
None of yall ever took a lesson from amg themselves. As a college golfer, I went to them for the concept of lowering my arms to my back hand pocket leaving me stuck and out of control club face. I lost 30 yards of distance and could not get off the tee box to save my life. Milo concepts are what every pga tour player like jon rahm is doing. Gets to the top and immediately uses the ground force and his body to rotate the club face square and achieve maximum speed and distance
I have taken multiple “in person “ lessons with AMG . They are the most unprofessional people I have met in the golf industry. First, they showed up in gym shorts and a hoodie. Second, they were on their phone the whole time. And then Shaun gave me THREE different swing thoughts that went against what they teach online. all for the wonderful price of $500 per lesson.
Just because you know GEARS doesn’t make you a good teacher. Just like if you know human anatomy doesn’t make you a doctor.
I have never taken an in person lesson from Milo, but since watching his videos I have gotten most of my distance back and I my trajectory is much lower. Plus he seems more professional.
By the way, just to back up what Milo is saying, go check out Claude Harmon’s lesson with Rick Shiels. Clearing the hip and not stalling out the body which would lead to early extension. Claude and Milo seem to be teaching the same fundamentals. And I think Mr Harmon’s resume is pretty good.
You’re simply wrong about how the club and body move and should just admit you overstepped. Just because you “feel” a certain way doesn’t mean you should try to teach it to everyone online. The moves you teach might “feel” right for your anthropometry but stop spouting it online.
I think mostly that flexion provides balance and leverage, for me anyway. I was a baseball player too along with hockey.
I find your descriptions of the athletic movement in the golf swing so fascinating. In this video, your head appears to drop a foot or so when you recenter. Do you think that’s an exaggeration while demonstrating your point, or do you actually compress that much? Thanks!
Ive always been a fan of Milo and even came out to see him for a lesson. I also like AMG content. AMG videos have helped me better understand what milo was teaching me and I’m better now for it! I appreciate both styles of teaching and both can be very helpful.
BTW I think it’s out of order what AMG did , coaches have different ideas . f@@k em I say .
I'd rather learn from someone who knows how to achieve tour like speed and positions….rather than two well meaning gents who simply can't demonstrate either.
Great lesson!! Please let us know where to get that practice net.
I'm confused…. In the original Milo video did the referenced graph demonstrate side bend or forward bend? If forward bend, does the analysis materially change?
As the hips go down and the club raises is that lag?
OOPS THERE IT IS !
Just saw you over at BBG and saw your rear swing, must admit looking good Mr Lines, keep up hard work its starting to pay off, nice & tight (are you trying to bulk up or introduce more flexibility) . . looks like I have to get off my fat ass and start exercising.
